Bookweek Parade

16th August

Celebrating Bookweek.

Students in Years 3-6 visited the State Theatre on Thursday to see Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts, and on Friday Mrs Powell’s Year 4/5 class hosted a special Book Week assembly. The theme for this year’s Book Week and thus the Year 4/5 class’s assembly item was ‘Reading is My Secret Power’. We laughed and cheered as groups of students presented highly polished and entertaining performances that they had created and developed over several weeks. The evil Book Worm wreaked havoc with television sets, forcing people everywhere to rediscover a love of reading; reading infiltrated sporting events; and key literary elements (a ‘hook’, tension, resolution etc) were combined (in a cauldron, with a nod to Macbeth) to create amazing stories. Thank you to Mrs Powell and the students in 4/5P!

What an amazing array of costumes there were on display that day too! Congratulations to everyone who dressed up, even in some small way, and who brought one of their favourite books with them – you all made the day very special.
