History

Kapinara was first opened in 1967 as a Junior Primary School for Years 1-3. The school expanded to accommodate the growing population in the newly developed suburbs of north City Beach and south Wembley Downs. Homes surrounding the school had been built to house the athletes of the 1962 Commonwealth Games, then later sold to families wishing to move into the area. The school’s peak enrolment period was in the 1970’s, with nearly 700 students attending. After a period of population stabilisation, many young families are now returning to the area and enrolments have steadily grown over recent years. Current enrolments are approximately 400 (Yr K-6). The original Pre-Primary was situated offsite in Bendigo Way, which in later years became our Kindergarten. In 2007 the Kindergarten was moved to the main school site.

Kapinara has always maintained a family tradition with current and former students. Each year we welcome many second generation students to our school and ex students returning in a work experience or teaching capacity.
