Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Last Friday the children in Year 2 hosted a joyful assembly. They sang Petula Clark’s ‘Colour My World’ and shared with everyone the continent in which they were born, or their parents or grandparents were born. Given our current weather, and that there are always those among us who are struggling at any given time, here is the message from the Year 2 children.

‘So you can colour my world with sunshine yellow each day, Oh you can colour my world with happiness all the way’
Our next assembly will be hosted by the Year 1 students in 1T and 1C on Friday, 12 August. You might also like to give your child/children a reminder about the opportunity to dress-up for Book Week in Week 6. The dress-up event is ultimately for children (rather than their tired parents). While younger children will need the help of an adult to get something simple organised, they can as a minimum, contribute some thought and planning to dressing up. Older students should be assuming responsibility for their own costume and getting the majority of this organised.
Exciting News
Firstly, due to the vision, hard work and tenacity of Mrs Linda Wayman, Manager Corporate Services, our Pre-Primary classes will be having a makeover! Structural changes to the existing infrastructure will see the kitchen area in PP1 significantly reduced, and the area of PP2 increased. This will result in each of the Pre-Primary classrooms being a similar size, with the same number of students in each. It also allows for a few additional PP students, enabling us to enrol the same number of students as most other PP classes. At this stage, we have had plans and funding approved, but we are yet to learn when the project might be undertaken.
Secondly, last night the P & C confirmed that they would provide funding for us to cover the concrete floor in the undercover area. This has been an aspirational goal for several years, and it’s finally going to become a reality. It is however, a significant expense, so if you haven’t yet paid the voluntary P & C contribution for 2022, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. All students will benefit daily, year after year, from the new floor – particularly in these colder months, and it enables all our regular sporting activities to continue. Every time you support the P & C it results in tangible benefits for the students at Kapinara – whether it be new materials and equipment (reading books, a set of novels, STEM resources, sports equipment); contemporary technologies; creative playground facilities … or a new surface to sit on and play on. Thank you … and thank you P & C!
Best wishes
Elizabeth
Adopt a Beach Excursion
On the 27th of July, the Year 6 students walked down to Floreat beach to plant native plants on the foreshore dunes with Cambridge Coastcare who are a not-for-profit community organisation formed to undertake coastal rehabilitation projects within Town of Cambridge’s stretch of coastline, as well as promoting its conservation and awareness of its ecology.
We had a fantastic time planting the native plants and learned a great deal about the positive impact the dunes have within the Cottesloe community.

Additional Rapid Antigen Tests
We have been delivered an additional box of 20 Rapid Antigen Tests (nasal) for every student in the school. These can be collected from the school office from Thursday morning. As before, it is a requirement due to the contents that boxes cannot be handed to the students. Should you wish for another adult to collect on your behalf, please send an email to the office and we will be happy to distribute according to your instruction.
Absences
Could we please request that absences relating to students leaving for appointments not be sent through any more than one day prior to the appointment. It can be noted on the system, however it is proving problematic keeping track of letting teachers know on the actual day when the student should be sent to the office. Thank you
