Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Phew – we have almost made it to the end of Semester 1. This term has seemed a little longer than usual and everyone seems well and truly ready for a break, but hey, we’ve done it! I hope that all families have an opportunity to rest and relax over the holiday period. Please find following and attached, some information about what we are doing to celebrate NAIDOC Week, some Indigenous Artist inspired artworks that Year 3 and Year 6 students have been working on this term, and a great school holiday suggestion. Next semester we look forward to the return of some community focused events such as school assemblies, a showcase of musical talent at the Soiree, athletic talent at the athletics carnival and parent entertainment at the P & C’s fundraising Bingo evening.

In the meantime, thanks for your support throughout the term. Stay safe and well.

Best wishes
Elizabeth

NAIDOC WEEK

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year. Participating in NAIDOC Week activities helps us to acknowledge and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, languages and achievements. I hope children have been talking to you about the activities they have participated in so far this week. We will also be uploading some images to the gallery on our school website. It’s been great to see students in themed wristbands and scrunchies, so thank you to the uniform shop and to families for supporting this. On Friday there will be a special NAIDOC Week assembly (and a celebratory sausage sizzle at lunchtime – orders close tomorrow!) Family members are invited to join us for the assembly.

Given that NAIDOC Week formally commences on Sunday 3 July, I have included a link to the NAIDOC Week website NAIDOC |  You might like to particularly look at the ‘Local Events’ Local NAIDOC Week events | NAIDOC and children might enjoy colouring in the copy of this year’s poster.

There will be celebrations occurring at venues including:

  • NAIDOC Celebrations at Karrinyup Shopping Centre, 9am -5pm on Sunday 3 July
  • Indigenous Art on the Northbridge Piazza Superscreen between 9am and 7pm from 3 -9 July
  • Aboriginal Art and Dreamtime at Vincent Community Centre, Loftus St Leederville on 6 July
  • NAIDOC Week Storytime at Claremont Community Hub and Library on 6 July
  • NAIDOC Week Art at Claremont Community Hub and Library on 8 July
  • NAIDOC Week at WA Museum Boola Bardip, 9:30am-5:00pm from 3-10 July
