Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
I’m pleased to be able to provide you with an update regarding our isolating teachers and students.
Thank you for your patience. I don’t want to send you information unless I’m confident that it is completely accurate, and it can often take time particularly when the COVID-19 protocols are changing! I’m delighted to report that we now anticipate welcoming Mrs Chipps and children in 1C back tomorrow (Wednesday) and Miss Lund and students in 6L on Friday ? At the time this newsfeed is posted, each of the test results I am aware of have been negative (students, family members and teachers). We are so looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school.
The support from our school community has been wonderful. In many cases where parents needed to have one child tested, additional family members were also tested. The additional negative results are reassuring for our community, and I believe will also be valued by the Departments of Education and Health. Thank you. I’m also aware that some families took children for COVID vaccinations yesterday. The other helpful action families are taking is ensuring children remain at home if they are unwell AND ensuring they have a COVID test if they have COVID-related symptoms.

Following a meeting of State Cabinet yesterday, a number of changes pertaining to testing and isolation protocols were made. Under the new guidelines, the children in 1C and their teacher are no longer considered ‘close contacts’, and the protocols for the Year 6 class and their teacher have also changed. The isolation period for the latter has been reduced from 14 to 7 days, but they will need to return a second negative test. As of today, Health WA has indicated that this could be either a PCR or a RAT, providing everyone with a little more flexibility. You can find the new testing and isolation protocols at the following: High COVID caseload settings under WA’s Updated Transition Plan (www.wa.gov.au)
Other changes
Based on the most recent advice from the Chief Health Officer, schools have been asked to limit in-school gatherings of students and staff to class groups or small groups within a year level, and to ‘seek alternatives to whole of school activities’. Schools have also been asked to manage meetings with parents via phone, Zoom or email and to limit adults in classrooms to school staff only. So our parent meetings last Friday just scraped in ? For now, we will need to find creative ways to remain connected – and we will.
Thank you again and kudos to families and staff for your understanding and support. We are likely to find ourselves in a similar position again throughout the year, but if everyone responds as they have on this occasion, we’ll work through each scenario calmly, one step at a time … and we’ll be okay.
Best wishes
Elizabeth
