Remembrance Day

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year is recognised as Remembrance Day. This marks the anniversary of the armistice in 1918, when the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11am on November 11th, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. A red poppy has become symbolic of Remembrance Day.
The Kapinara community has always assisted Rotary and the RSL to support the welfare of War veterans and their dependents, and this year we will be again be selling Red Poppies, to raise funds for this commendable cause.
Yr 5s will be selling red poppies, for a gold coin donation, outside the instrumental room before and after school from tomorrow, Wed 3rd November until Thursday 11th November. We thank you for your support of Remembrance Day.

A short Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on Thursday 11th November at 10.50am, in the undercover area. Parents are welcome.

What is National Recycling Week?

National Recycling Week, established by Planet Ark in 1996, is held every year during the second week of November. It was a campaign launched to provide an important opportunity for councils, workplaces, schools and individuals to improve their recycling knowledge and build better recycling habits.

Soft plastics are one of the major contributors to the problem of pollution, particularly in a marine environment and many of them end up in landfill as at the moment they are not collected in your kerbside recycling bin.
From Monday 8th November we will be trialling for 2 weeks collecting soft plastics at school from your lunches. Look out for the bright yellow bin and put your chip packets, lolly wrappers, muesli bar wrappers, plastic bags and clean cling wrap into it. We will take the plastic collected to a local collection point through a scheme run by the REDcycle program.

Our Containers for Change program is still running at the school. The collection bins are located outside the library or you can take it straight to the collection point and quote the school number (C10288919) and the proceeds will go to the school. We also have large bags which can be collected from the front office if you are wanting to do your own collection.

Many thanks for the difference you will make to our environment.
