Dear Parents and Carers
Year 6 Graduation
Tuesday afternoon we hosted a very special event – our Year 6 Graduation ceremony. I have known many of the graduating students since they started Kindergarten eight years ago, and it has been a privilege to watch them learn, and develop into the people they are today. As each student reflected on their time at Kapinara, it was interesting (and heart-warming) to note a number of common themes. Many recalled their first day at Kapinara – whether that was starting Kindergarten with Mrs Mee, or arriving later in primary school. Most mentioned the importance of the friendships they had created, and how these relationships continued to support them. Memories of events commonly involved a challenge that had played a role in developing their ‘sense of self’, such as building a raft at camp, while others involved something amusing, embarrassing … or both! What warmed my heart most however, was to hear these young people talking about kindness, gratitude, personal growth, looking out for others, and wishing their peers happiness and success. Congratulations Year 6s – your family, teachers and I are incredibly proud of you.
- Next year, Mr Hodgson will be on leave in Semester 1
- Mr David Watson will be here in Semester 1 at least
- Mrs Kim Knowles is to continue in the Principal role at East Victoria Park PS at the beginning of next year, and Mrs Joanne Dixon will remain in the Deputy role at Kapinara PS
- Ms Natasha Trandos will be taking up a 12 month contract, teaching HaSS to secondary school students.
This year Ms Trandos has completed a program designed to extend teachers’ existing qualifications in primary education to secondary teaching. Ms Trandos has been offered opportunities to put this to good use next year. We will certainly miss her at Kapinara next year, but wish her well in her new role.
Reports will be emailed to families at the end of this week. If you are new to electronic reports, please be aware that you need to download and save these documents as they are only available via the link for a limited time.
Planning for 2022
It is expected that class lists for 2022 will arrive via a password-protected email on the Thursday immediately before school commences.
Given the recent announcement that our State’s border will open on the 5 February 2022, we plan to schedule ‘class meetings’ in the first week of term. This will enable you to visit your child’s classroom and meet with teachers. I’m not sure exactly what this will look like yet in terms of days and times, but I will be referring back to the survey data gathered earlier this year to determine the most suitable options. I’ll endeavour to provide you with this information in the week prior to the start of school.
COVID-19 Measures including Mandatory Vaccinations
I had planned to include information regarding the above in today’s post, but have received some additional documentation. I will therefore add any relevant information and forward information to you tomorrow.
On behalf of our staff I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful school community for your support throughout the year. I’m actually wondering where the year has gone! I’d like to particularly thank members of our School Board, our P & C (including the Uniform Shop and the School Canteen) and all those who have volunteered their time, expertise and care to enrich the learning and development of our Kapinara students.
I would also like to extend a special farewell to those families who will leave us this week.
My very best wishes for the holiday season, and a wonderful break from the routines of school. I look forward to seeing you on Monday 31 January 2022.
Take care and stay safe.
