Message from the Acting Principal

Offer friendship and a helping hand to others and so be a beacon of
harmony, happiness, peace and calm.

Thank you to all the parents who have completed the school survey and attended our open forums. Aleisha and I will be organising the data that we have received, and we will distribute this to the community. I can assure you that all the information that has been provided will be used to develop successful strategies to move the school forward and provide a wonderful place for children to thrive.

What was clear from all the conversations, is the kindness and generosity of spirit that is part of the very fabric of Kapinara. As part of the Positive Behaviour Review, we have identified some corner stones for our school. At the end of this week, I will distribute to the community, our values framework and a policy statement for comment.

At this stage the following is reading for community comment. Please feel free to feedback to me your thoughts.

Policy Statement

Kapinara Primary School provides every student with the educational support the student needs to learn and maintain positive behaviour. Kapinara Primary School is a productive, engaging learning environment where all teachers, students, administrators, support staff and parents work in partnership for the successful development of each student.

At Kapinara Primary School our expectations stem from our school motto of kindness, consideration and service for others.  The context where these behavioural expectations occur include the classroom, playground, online and off school grounds.

Our Approach

To ensure the effective support of student behaviour needs, we will:

  • build authentic relationships with students based on mutual respect
  • see difficulties as an opportunity for growth and reflection for all
  • have a consistent, pro-active school wide approach to positive behaviour management
  • teach pro-social and self-regulation skills across the school day
  • provide clear, effective processes and procedures so that conflict and bullying can be resolved in a sensitive, fair and timely manner
  • establish a clear set of processes for students to accept their responsibilities
  • recognise members of our school community whose behaviour promotes a positive and caring school environment

Food for thought

The value and importance of cultivating a giving spirit in children.

In a world where many things start with ‘I’, even devices, the importance of Community and giving is so much more important. The old cliché of if everyone gives everyone gets is powerful in developing a school where all children can and do develop into the best versions of themselves.

Children benefit in many ways from learning to be generous and caring about others. Researchers have found that empathy is the cornerstone for becoming a happy, well-adjusted, successful adult. Studies show that possessing empathy also makes children more likable, more employable, better leaders and more conscience driven. How do we support our children to have these qualities?

Prioritize Caring, Children believe what their significant adults value.  For us that is to openly prioritize charitableness in conversations and action. We need to be clear of what we expect of children not only to do their academic best, but to care about others.

Be a charitable role model, the old saying, “Children learn what they live,” has a lot truth to it. Studies show that if parents and significant others are generous and giving, kids are likely to adopt those qualities. So, we all need to show our children the joy you get by giving.

Use real events, instead of just bemoaning bad news, talk about how you might help in the school or the local community. Discuss with children how or what we could do to help to make things better. Encourage proactivity.
