Principals Message
Dear Kapinara Families,
As we settle into term one at Kapinara Primary School, I want to take a moment to celebrate our students’ achievements and reflect on the values that make our school community so special.
Inaugural Principal’s Art Award – A Reflection of Student Voice
A heartfelt congratulations to our talented inaugural Principal’s Art Award winners! Congratulations to:
- Stella B – Kindy Yellow
- Connor C – Year 1
- Audrey S – Year 4
- Orson P – Year 5
- Mia T- Year 5
- Tom B – Year 5
- Poppy V and Bo J – Year 6
- Bailey C and Lily J – Year 6
We are so excited to see this artwork on display in reception. This initiative provided an initial student voice opportunity, allowing us to see what our students value most about Kapinara. I was deeply moved to see that many students chose to replace the traditional school logo shield with love hearts in their artwork- a powerful statement about the warmth, care, and sense of belonging they feel at our school. Their creativity and insight truly highlight the incredible culture we are building together.
Our School Values: Kindness, Consideration, and Service to Others
At Kapinara, we are committed to nurturing not just academic success but also strong character. Our school values of kindness, consideration, and service to others—values that strengthen our sense of community. Whether it’s helping a friend, showing appreciation to staff, or making a positive impact in the wider world, small acts of kindness create a culture of care and respect. I encourage all school community members to find moments each day to demonstrate these values in their interactions.
A Timely Start to the Day
It has been wonderful to see students arriving at school ready to learn and connect with their peers. A reminder that school starts promptly at 8:30 AM, and students should aim to arrive as close to this time as possible. Thank you for your support in ensuring all children have a smooth and settled start to their school day.
Thank you for your continued support in making Kapinara a wonderful place for learning and growth.
Warm regards,
Natalie Oddy

Learning Spotlight
Our annual Year 6 Leadership Program is designed to nurture essential leadership skills in our students, including cooperation, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. A central component of this program is the day trip to the Ern Halliday Recreation Camp, where students engage in various activities that promote personal growth and leadership development.
Below are extracts from Year 6 students, sharing their reflections on their experiences during the Leadership Excursion. These responses not only highlight key moments from the trip but also offer insights into the valuable lessons they learned, particularly in problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience. The feedback from our students reveals just how much they value this experience as a key part of their leadership journey

Chaplaincy Program
Last newsletter you were introduced to our new School Chaplain, Paul Stokes and his role. The Chaplaincy program is available to support the wellbeing of all students. The Chaplaincy program supports the holistic wellbeing of all children and their families.
If you would prefer your child NOT TO be referred to the chaplaincy program for 1-1 chats supporting wellbeing, please notify the front office by the end of week 7 this term (kapinara.ps.admin@education.wa.edu.au.)
If you have further questions, please contact Mrs Joanne Dixon (Joanne.Dixon2@education.wa.edu.au).
Art Room Request
The Art Room is on a creative mission and needs your help! We’re looking for some everyday items to spark imagination:
- Yogurt containers (any size, let’s get creative)
- Old newspapers (perfect for crafting)
- Plastic lids from soft drinks, juices, milk, and more (the possibilities are endless)
Don’t toss them – bring them in for a fun and arty makeover. Thanks for helping us fuel some awesome creations.
Thank you
Anna Trovarelli
School Dental Van
The School Dental Service provides free general dental care to eligible school children.
To be eligible for the School Dental Service students need to:
- attend a school (or home education program) recognised by the Western Australian Department of Education
- be aged between 5 and 16 years (the service ends at the end of Year 11, whether the student has turned 16 or not).
Students must enrol in the School Dental Service. The Leederville Mobile Van visits Leederville, Mount Hawthorn, Floreat and City Beach Primary Schools.
Kapinara is not currently eligible for the van to be onsite at our school. Our resurfaced quadrangle is not suitable, and where positioned, the van requires the regulation power and drainage systems to be in place.
If you are not currently registered for the service and would like to, please contact Brenda on 0408 926794 and she will be happy to help.

Vale Kellwyn Trainor
Last week we learned of the passing of an ex-staff member and Kapinara legend, Mr Kell Trainor. Kell taught hundreds of students between 1986 and 2003. He will be best remembered for his dedication to poolside swimming training, his sense of humour, and his loud whistle!! He was one of our many great teachers that has helped shape Kapinara over the years. Thank you for all you did for us Kell.
