Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

World Teachers’ Day

Last Friday was World Teachers Day, and we were all treated to a wonderful assembly and some special surprises that recognised and celebrated the care and commitment of our teaching staff. The children in 3BC and 3H shared a thoughtful, and at times funny, ‘A to Z of Teachers’; and several children read aloud what they had written about a teacher who had had a lasting positive impact on them. They were beautifully read and particularly insightful. They also sang a special song for teachers before presenting them with an apple? (a form of payment to educators long ago). Congratulations and thank you for an assembly that brightened everyone’s day.

I’d also like to acknowledge the wonderful gestures that the P & C arranged on behalf of the children and families. We were all greeted by colourful signage on Catesby Street as we arrived on Friday morning, followed by a REAL coffee! Sincere thanks to our P & C (and Kapinara families) who kicked off our day in style. Finally, our thanks to our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) provider Their Care, who shouted staff ‘Subway’ platters for lunch. Everyone felt particularly cared for and appreciated. Thank you!

School Board Membership

As I mentioned in the last newsfeed, there is an opportunity for another member of our parent community to join the School Board from the beginning of 2024.  You will receive an email soon which will include an information sheet outlining the Role and Responsibilities of School Boards, and a nomination form. The nomination form will ask you to include a personal profile which will be shared with the school community if we receive several nominations, and a ‘vote’ is required. Please don’t be deterred by this however! If you are unsure about what to write or have any questions about Board membership, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

We hope to be in a position to welcome the newest Board member to the School Board’s Open Meeting scheduled for Monday 27 November 2023.

Best wishes

Elizabeth Blackwell
Principal

Remembrance Day

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year is recognised as Remembrance Day. This marks the anniversary of the armistice in 1918, when the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11am on November 11th, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. A red poppy has become symbolic of Remembrance Day.

The Kapinara community has always assisted Rotary and the RSL to support the welfare of War veterans and their dependents, and this year we will again be selling Red Poppies, to raise funds for this commendable cause.

Year 5s will be selling red poppies, for a gold coin donation, outside the instrumental room before and after school until Friday 10th November. We have not received our poppies as yet, however it will be communicated to the students when they arrive. We thank you for your support of Remembrance Day.

A short Remembrance Day Service will be held on Friday 10th November, at 10.45am in the Undercover area. Parents are welcome.

Year 4 Reconciliation Incursion

On Friday 3 November, Year 4 will have the opportunity to take part in an incursion run by Reconciliation WA, which will support the student’s work in Civics and Citizenship this term.

This is a new program being run at the Constitution Centre and we are very fortunate to have the opportunity for them to present it to us at school this term. No payment or permission is required.
