General News Week 5

Year 6 Day Camp – 21st May 2019 (Day Camp photos in our Gallery section)

On our Day Camp we grew our leadership skills of perspective and active listening as we learned about Aboriginal culture and how to fish and hunt. We tried some bush tucker such as damper and kangaroo.  There was so much knowledge and understanding of the land and animals that we never realised, like the Aboriginal people adapted themselves, not the environment. We also did lots of other activities like grinding grain, painting our faces with a totem animal and making fire. Lots of parents came to help us with our barbeque and then we did a night walk through the forest to look for native animals – so many spiders and possums! All our learning was done outside surrounded by beautiful native trees and bushes. At the end of the day, our most prized possessions are our memories of the great time and learning we had at the Perth Hills Discovery Centre. Charli, Emma, Charleze, Anna, Luka, Arwen

Kapinara School Disco – June 7th 2019

The year 6 parents and students would like to invite all students from Kindy to Year 6 to the school’s annual disco Friday June 7th upstairs at Floreat Beach Surf Club.  The Junior disco (Kindy to Year 2) will run from 5.00-6.30pm and the Senior disco (Years 3 to 6) from 7.00-8.30pm. There will be a fun theme, DJ, decorations, food and drink included in your ticket price.
Floreat Beach Surf Club is a fantastic and secure venue that provides plenty of space for the children to move and the DJ to set up. The area is fully lockable downstairs so no child is able to enter or leave the premises without being signed off on the attendance register.  The senior students will enter through the front door for their disco whilst the younger children will be taken to the back courtyard to await pickup with year 6 parents as supervisors throughout the evening.  Please note that the disco is fully supervised by Year 6 parents who will be easily identifiable.  Bathroom and kitchen facilities are all within the complex so there is no need for anyone to exit once they have been signed in.
This is an off school grounds experience which makes it extra exciting for the kids. However, if your child feels uncomfortable being left alone any parent is welcome to come up to the balcony area to stay and watch (younger siblings are also welcome).
The school disco is a major fundraiser for the Year 6 students and the money raised goes towards their camp and graduation activities. So please put the date in your diary and support our Year 6s. Further information will be sent out closer to the event.

P&C News Week 6

The P&C AGM was held last night. Office bearers for 2019 continue to be Nic Schmidt (President), Naomi Taylor (Vice President), Anna Larson (Treasurer) and Kate Rowlands Marquis (Secretary). A huge thanks to these ladies who have worked tirelessly for many years on the P&C. We always encourage new members so please come along to the next meeting to see where you can contribute, next meeting is on Tuesday 2nd April at 7pm.

Plans for the 2019 school year include the P&C fundraising to support the school’s plans to stabilise and prevent further erosion of the slope on the lower oval; implementing a new sound system and PA for the school undercover area; sound proofing the classroom next to the undercover area; and upgrading the canteen (which has been completed). There are also plans to extend the wobbly playground on the lower oval. Fundraising is really central to the P&C’s role in the school. Thanks to all those who supported the Year 6 cake stall which raised $809. An Easter raffle will soon be held for Pre Primary fundraising so please support this. Activities throughout the year like the Entertainment Book, the Book Fair, cake stalls, Year 6 disco and other ventures really need the community’s support to assist fundraising and bringing all the plans to fruition!

Good luck to all Year 4-6 students participating in the faction swimming carnival tomorrow!! Canteen lunches will be available for all children after their return from the carnival.

Canteen News

The canteen is looking fabulous with new windows and new flooring! It has made a huge improvement to the canteen. The P&C has reviewed the operation of the canteen to ensure it is as efficient and accessible as possible and the online ordering system has been a great addition. In comparing the menu with several other local public primary schools, we have adjusted prices very slightly to reflect costs and what other schools are providing. The P&C has also decided that the canteen will not operate if volunteers have not been confirmed for the following week. All volunteer spots are requested to be filled by 9am Friday morning, so that canteen can operate knowing it has support and the ability to feed all the children on time. There will be a ‘Feedback and Suggestions box’ placed outside the canteen so that you can provide direct feedback to the P&C about these changes. These suggestions can then be discussed at the following meeting for consideration. The canteen is open to suggestions but needs the certainty of volunteers signing up to work effectively. Thank you in advance for your support. Hope to see you in the canteen soon to admire all the new alterations!
A big thank you to the Year 6 parents who have volunteered for canteen in Week 1. The sign up link for the remainder of the term is http://signup.com/go/OFCPcFZ

Note: the canteen will be closed in the last week of term.

End of Year Sausage Sizzle
Thursday December 13th is the last day of school and as the canteen is closed that week the P&C have agreed to support Variety WA to hold a sausage sizzle meal deal for lunch that day. For $5 your child will receive a sausage in a bun, juice box and mini muffin. All order forms need to be placed in the note drawer at the front office with $5 cash by 3pm Monday 10 December. The sausages provided will be Fail Safe beef sausages and if anyone has any queries please contact Cass Leaman on 0409 107 974 or cassleaman1@gmail.com (Please note the end of year sausage sizzle is separate from the Year 6 one today). Click here for an order form.

Last Chance for Lost Property!
Any items not claimed by Friday 7th December will be donated to charity.
Lost property will be displayed in the quadrangle from 8.15am on Fridays. Please check at home and school bags to make sure you have the correct hat and jumper as many have gone missing. This is also a timely reminder to label all uniform items and personal belongings before the beginning of the new school year. If items are clearly labelled, they have a much better chance of being returned.
