Principal’s Message 19.9.23

Clearness and persistence of aim reduces the amount of effort it takes to be effective. Wes Roberts PHD

Dear Parents

An inspiring term!

Thank you to everyone for an outstanding third term. There was certainly a great deal achieved.
As a community we engaged and approached all that came our way with enthusiasm. The collegiate and collaborative spirit reflects our vibrant and dynamic school. We are very grateful and thankful for the efforts of everyone.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Confidence and developing a strong ‘I Can’ internal message in our children.

We have a school full of children with a very strong ‘I can’ message, which is a clear reflection on the supportive and caring family life they have.

In the argument over quality over quantity time with children, research says quantity wins. Just being there, speaks volumes to the child, it tells them they are valued and a very important part of your life. This gives the child more confidence than anything else; it forms the basis of belief and be confident in going out into the world as the child knows you will be there to fall back on. You are the rock they will build their lives on.

Confidence our children have, comes from many areas however the following is a short list of points that are known to make a big impact;

  • Giving children opportunities to do concrete things where there is a result they can see. Cooking is an obvious one because they can see and eat the outcome of their efforts.
  • Being around them and acknowledging the things they do, particularly where they are doing things that are generous or giving.
  • Be generous with praise and genuine feedback. The use of superlatives i.e. wonderful, good, great and others are overdone and don’t give any real feedback. Give feedback about determination, commitment, care, consistency, and resilience to keep going.
  • Acknowledge their efforts not the outcome. Outcome will change, commitment to effort is about character.

As a general rule research says five real positives to every corrective.

2024 CLASSROOM STRUCTURES

Class Placements for 2024
We have begun the planning process for 2024 in earnest. As part of that process, we organise class groups which consider academic, social, attitude and behaviour. A great deal of thought by teachers goes into creating class groupings. Teachers have already started sitting with students on a one-on-one basis and asking students to identify 3 students they work well with.
Based on our predicted student numbers our class structure will be:

2 classes of Kindy
2 classes of Pre-primary
2 classes of Year 1
2 classes of Year 2
3 classes of Year 3
2 classes of Year 4
2 classes of Year 5
2 classes of Year 6.

Leaving Students
We are seeking your support. We are planning for next year and it would be very helpful if you know that you are leaving to help us in organising classes. At this stage with the student numbers in each year level we will be having straight classes in each year level as indicated above.
