Principals Message
As we head toward the end of Term 2, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible community spirit that continues to shine at Kapinara.
This week’s Cross Country Carnival was a true highlight. It was more than a race, it was a celebration of perseverance, encouragement and doing hard things together. The support from our students, staff and families lining the course reminded us all of the strength in community. A special mention to our Year 1 students who wrote some wonderful “sizzling starts” in class, capturing the excitement, nerves and triumph of the event in their writing- your words brought the race to life all over again!
Thank you to everyone who submitted entries for the Principal’s Art Award this term. I was blown away by the creativity and thoughtfulness of your pieces, each one a unique expression of our school values- Kindness, Consideration and Service. We hope to announce our winners soon, though it’s proving to be a very difficult decision, the entries are all so impressive!
As we approach the end of the term, we also prepare to say farewell to two much-loved members of our team. Mandy Rodgers, our dedicated Manager Corporate Services (MCS), will be finishing up with us to move to Alinjarra Primary. Mandy has been an integral part of Kapinara, and her dedication, professionalism and warm presence have left a lasting impact on our school community. From managing the day-to-day operations to supporting families and staff with care and competence, Mandy has given her heart and soul to Kapinara. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her all the very best for her next chapter. Lau Ferrero will be transitioning into an MCS role at Coolbinia Primary. Lau has brought positivity and commitment to her time at Kapinara, and we thank her for her contribution. We look forward to welcoming Jade Brennan as our new MCS in Week 9, and are excited to have her join the Kapinara community.
Thank you for your continued support and for all the ways you contribute to making Kapinara the connected, caring and vibrant school it is.

Faction Cross Country Results

The Faction Cross Country Carnival was a great success with the students showcasing the running skills that they have been practising in PE lessons and at training. The weather was perfect, and we had a fantastic supportive spirit. All the students gave a brilliant effort and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones to complete the race. Thank you to all the families that were able to give their time to support the students and a special thank you to our wonderful year 6 faction leaders who worked tirelessly all day to ensure the event ran smoothly. Thank you to our parent volunteers- Mrs Van Niekerk who has helped with coaching and Mrs Black who helped with organisation on the day.

PP/Year 1 Class Cross Country Work
Yesterday, our PP/Year 1 students in Mrs Minissale’s class took part in the Faction Cross Country – and then practised turning their experiences into “sizzling sentences”.
As part of their writing focus, the children have been learning how to make their sentences more exciting and descriptive. Here is a sample of their fantastic writing – full of energy, emotion, and creativity!

Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week 2025 in Australia runs from May 27 to June 3, with the theme “Bridging Now to Next”. At Kapinara Primary School, the focus was on acknowledging the shared histories and cultures of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and exploring how to achieve reconciliation. This was achieved through a variety of incursions and special visits. Kapinara’s very own Aunty Lois, pictured here with Mrs Jonklaas (who retired last year) volunteered to share stories with the Year 4 and 5 classes. Yirra Yaakin performed for the PP- Yr 6 (photos were in the previous newsletter) and all classes completed activities in their own special way.

Mobile Phone & Smartwatch Reminder
The Student Mobile Phones in Public Schools policy took effect from the start of Term 1, 2020.
The policy requires all public schools to implement a ban on the use of mobile phones for all students from the time they arrive at school to the end of the school day. This extends to the use of smart watches which need to be on airplane mode during this period. The policy aims to reduce distractions in class and improve student engagement.
Under the policy:
- Primary students cannot have a mobile phone in their possession. If your child is in Kindergarten to Year 6 and they bring a mobile phone to school, it will be stored until the end of school.
Exceptions are allowed for students who have approval from the principal to use a phone to monitor health conditions, or where teachers give students permission to use mobile phones for a specific purpose.
If students need to contact their parents/carers, they can do so through the school’s administration. Likewise, if parents/carers need to get a message to their children, they should call the school.
Please see the link to Kapinara’s Mobile Phone Policy here.
Thank you for your support.

Voluntary Contributions and P&C Support
A kind reminder that Voluntary Contributions for 2025 are now due. These contributions play a valuable role in helping us provide additional resources to enhance the educational programs we offer across the school.
Thank you to the families who have already made their payments — your support is truly appreciated.
As a school community, we are always mindful of the financial demands on families and aim to keep costs to a minimum. If you are finding it difficult to make these payments, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we’re here to help.
In addition to the school contributions, the P&C has requested a voluntary contribution of $150 per family to support ongoing initiatives such as playground improvements, interactive whiteboards, and air-conditioning. There is also a $50 IT levy per family, which contributes to upgrades of classroom computers and essential tech equipment.
