Principal’s Message
Dear Families,

I’d like to begin by extending a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful P&C for organising a fantastic Quiz Night last weekend. Special thanks to the organising committee, led by Emma Schmidt, for their time, energy and creativity in putting together such an enjoyable community event. We are also incredibly grateful to our school community for your generous support, which has enabled the purchase of a large industrial fan for our undercover area. This will make a significant difference as the warmer months approach!
Looking ahead, we’re very excited for two upcoming events in Week 5. On Friday 22 August, our Book Week Parade and assembly will be hosted by Room 4/5C. We can’t wait to see the students’ creativity and celebrate a shared love of reading.
On Wednesday 20 August, from 2:00–3:00pm, we warmly invite parents to join us for Open Classrooms. This is an opportunity for your children to share their learning with you. This initiative is part of our School Board endorsed Communication Policy, which aims to strengthen the connections between home and school. We look forward to seeing you there!
Finally, congratulations to Audrey and Meg, whose artwork has been selected as the winning designs in our Student Behaviour Logo competition. Honourable mentions go to Leighton, Mishka and Sasha- we love seeing such strong student voice expressed through the arts. The students’ designs have now been forwarded to a graphic designer to develop into concepts for signage and badges, as part of our Positive Behaviour Support implementation. We look forward to sharing the final designs with you soon.

Book Week Assembly Parade
Book an adventure and step into the story! Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character for our exciting Book Week Parade on Friday 22 August. The parade will take place in the quadrangle during the 4/5C assembly. Don’t forget to label all costume items and ensure students wear appropriate footwear for a fun and safe day!

IMSS (Instrumental Music School Services)
Each year, students in Years 2, 3 and 4 undertake the initial stage of the Instrumental Music selection process for the 2025 Department of Education WA’s Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) program. The Instrumental Program at Kapinara involves tuition in Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Flute and Double Bass.
In Week 6, students will complete a musical aptitude assessment which tests the children’s ability in the areas of pitch, rhythm, and tunes, and is the first step in a process of identifying their suitability for the IMSS program.
More information regarding the program will provided prior to the assessment.
Rotary Four-Way Speech Competition
On Tuesday evening, Bronte Miller, Bo Jasper and Josi Belbin represented Kapinara Primary School at the local final of the Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Competition. All three students displayed confidence, maturity and poise as they presented their speeches to a packed room of Rotarians, families and fellow competitors.
We are delighted to share that Brontë placed 3rd overall, an outstanding achievement in a highly competitive field and Bo achieved an equal 7th place. Josi attended as reserve, supporting her peers with enthusiasm. Jack was well prepared as the original reserve.
This opportunity was not only a chance to develop public speaking skills but also to engage deeply with the Rotary values of truth, fairness, goodwill and benefit to all concerned. We are incredibly proud of the way these students represented Kapinara with pride and integrity.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Gardner and Mrs Powell who coached and supported our students throughout this journey.

2026 Planning
Term Three is when we start our planning for the following year. It would help us greatly if you could contact us if you know your child will not be returning to Kapinara in 2026. While it seems fairly early, it is important information for our planning, particularly in terms of budgeting, and structuring classes. We appreciate your understanding and help in moving smoothly into next year!
Open Classrooms
On Wednesday, August 20, we warmly invite parents to visit our classrooms between 2pm and 3pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share their work and give you a glimpse into their learning. We hope you enjoy this relaxed and engaging experience together.
Uniform Shop
A heartfelt thank you to all Kapinara families for your generous donations of old-style faction shirts. Thanks to your kindness, approximately 300 shirts have been delivered to Westminster Primary School.
The staff at Westminster expressed their deep gratitude, sharing that the shirts were incredibly well received. The students were thrilled and are now proudly wearing them every Friday in the lead-up to their sports carnival. This wonderful initiative has sparked a wave of excitement and has helped encourage a sense of team spirit and friendly rivalry among the students.
Your generosity has made a real difference – thank you for supporting another school community in such a meaningful way.

Advance Australia Fair
We are excited to announce a new initiative that will be introduced at our school assemblies—singing the Australian National Anthem in the Noongar language. This meaningful step is part of our commitment to embracing and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Noongar people, the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is located.
By incorporating the Noongar language into our school community, we aim to foster a deeper connection to the land, our local Indigenous culture, and the history that has shaped this place. It is an important opportunity for all students to learn about and respect the traditions and language of our First Nations people.
We believe that this initiative will help build a sense of cultural awareness, understanding, and pride in both our students and the wider school community. We hope this will be a valuable experience for everyone and a step towards greater reconciliation and unity.
We look forward to seeing you at our assemblies. If you would like to familiarise yourself with this version of our Anthem, you can find it here
