Faction Cross Country Report

The Faction Cross Country Carnival was a great success with students applying their running skills taught during sports lessons in recent weeks.
Thank you to all parents who could attend to support their children, creating an exciting atmosphere. Thank you to the P&C for organising the coffee van.

The faction competition was very closely contested this year. Winter were the winners with 370 points, second was Strickland with 364 points and Elliott was in third place with 358 points. Students finishing in the top 6 in their respective races have been selected for the interschool cross country team. The team list will be in the undercover area for students to check. Running Club will continue to take place and all Year 3-6 students are welcome to continue to attend.

Safe Battery Disposal and Recycling

Batteries are powerful and versatile but can also be problematic for several reasons.

It is important all batteries are disposed of safely, so they don’t pollute the environment. Although they can be recycled, 97% or 8000 tonnes end up in landfill each year. As they start to corrode, toxic materials leach into the waterways and ecosystems.

Batteries are also flammable, and when thrown into household rubbish bins can, and have, sparked fires in rubbish trucks, sending plumes of dangerous gas into the air. When these fires start, the drivers are forced to dump the rubbish out into the street or at the nearest park to be extinguished.

So, to stop fires from starting, batteries must be disposed of properly. Next time you have a flat battery, please take it to your nearest battery recycling hub, or bring them into school and place it in our battery recycling box in the front office.

Together, we can make a difference!
