Principal’s Message

Dear Kapinara Primary School Community,

We are excited to share with you some recent developments aimed at enhancing the learning environment here at Kapinara. Recently, our staff have collaborated on refining our rules and routines, guided by research from the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO). These efforts are designed to foster a safe and orderly atmosphere throughout the school. The experience of predictability and safety in a learning environment that includes routines contributes to positive relationships and learning success.

One noticeable change has been the implementation of new morning routines and improved transitions between classes. While seemingly minor adjustments, these changes are crucial in establishing a structured environment conducive to learning. Already, our staff have observed positive outcomes in the short time since their introduction.

To give you a glimpse into these improvements:

Each morning, students from Year 1 to Year 6 now gather in the quad. Students who are present at 8:30am assemble in designated spots where their classroom teachers meet them and escort them to their classes.

During transitions between lessons, students move in class groups, maintaining silence and staying on the left-hand side of corridors. Teachers accompany and supervise these movements closely.

These changes are based on proven research that highlights the benefits of structured routines in educational settings. If you would like to delve deeper into this topic, the AERO publication “Classroom Management Practice Guide – Students Moving Through the School” offers valuable insights. You can explore more at AERO Classroom management practice guide – Students moving through the school (edresearch.edu.au)

We look forward to continuing our journey of improvement together and creating an environment where every child can thrive.

Wishing you a fabulous week.

Kylie Reeves
Principal
