Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Soirée

What an incredibly special evening it was for those of us in the audience at our 2024 Soiree yesterday. For those families who are new to the school or have very young children, the Soiree (once known by the community as ‘Strings Night’) is an annual event for Kapinara students and families. It has been an opportunity to showcase our string orchestra, school choir, guitar ensemble, and Year 6 students who have been learning a musical instrument as part of the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) program. The event has changed a little in the last few years, and last night’s program was different again. There was still the joy of listening to the orchestra, Rockapella (130+ strong choir), guitar ensemble and Year 6 IMSS students. Congratulations to our students on your wonderful, polished performances, and thank you for the pride and happiness you brought to so many of us. We also had an opportunity to enjoy performances showcasing a range of other special talents (a wonderful surprise for most of us), with a number of unique performances by our Year 6 students. They included vocals, guitar, piano, ukulele, drums, violin (performed by one of our cellists), dance, acrobatics and a rock band – and they were all amazing!

I wish to sincerely thank our IMSS teachers, and Mr Kevin Gillam (orchestra conductor), Jayden Ho (former student and piano accompanist), Mr Mark Eaton (Rock Band), Year 6 MCs, Year 5 stagehands and members of our teaching staff. I’d like to extend a special thank you to Mrs Sarina Davey, our music specialist and director of Rockapella, for pulling all of this together and developing in our students the self-belief that enabled them to shine so brightly on the night.

Semester Reports

Attached to one of the previous newsfeeds was some information about assessment, the reporting process and the reasons underpinning a change to how this semester’s reports will look. I promised to follow this with some information about what distinguishes achievement at one level, from achievement at another. Please find this attached to the newsfeed email.

Thank You

Thank you so much to those who have emailed or spoken to me directly in the last couple of days. While most people retire from long term roles with great excitement, I must confess that at the moment I’m struggling. However yesterday I recalled a phrase attributed to AA Milne, ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard’, and suddenly this made more sense. I hope to see many more of you this week and next.

Best wishes
Elizabeth

Footsteps Dance

Dance Concert

All parents are invited to the Dance Finale at 2.20pm Friday 28 June in the undercover area. The students will be showcasing the moves they have learnt through the dance incursion. We would love to see you there!

Make-Up Lesson

There will be a make-up lesson for Year 2, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 students who missed their Week One lesson due to the instructor being unwell. This will be held next Friday 28 June, the last day of term, prior to the dance concert.

The Kindy Yellow students who also missed their lesson, are not scheduled to attend school on the day of the concert. However they are invited to attend a makeup lesson at 1.50pm-2.20pm with their parents if this time suits. Following their lesson they are welcome to join the Kindy Green group for the finale performance.

Kids Marathon Club

We are excited to announce the West Australian Marathon Club (WAMC) Perth Kids Marathon is back for 2024!

We invite all school children to be involved in this unique event taking place on Sunday 4th August, 2024.

This event is a great opportunity for children to start an exercise program that will continue over a number of weeks and culminate in the completion of a “marathon” – 42.195km!

The aim is to run the first 40km of the marathon distance over a number of weeks in the child’s own time (or at school), then on marathon day complete the final 2.195km at the 2024 Perth Kids Marathon, which will be held in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary Perth Half Marathon!

All registered participants receive a FREE T-shirt* and medal, and the school with the largest team receives a magnificent trophy to proudly display at their school – so get your school involved!
