Waste Reduction with Peg

Did you know on the 1 July residents living in the Town of Cambridge will be able to use their green-lid bin for FOGO? FOGO stands for ‘Food Organics, Garden Organics. In your ‘new’ FOGO bin, you can throw all your garden and food waste. That includes meat and fish scraps, diary products, animal droppings, kitty litter, as well as paper and cardboard.

In preparation for this change, Peg from Lessen with Peg-Rethink Waste came to Kapinara to teach us (Years 1 – 6) how to reduce our negative impact on the environment. In the sessions, we were surprised to learn that batteries can start fires in rubbish trucks, electronic devices and gas bottles need to be disposed of differently, and glass can still be recycled even if it is broken, and so much more.

At Kapinara PS, we collect dead batteries. If you have ‘flat’ batteries, DO NOT throw them in your rubbish bin. Instead, bring them to the School Office or take them to Coles or Woolworths.

Here are 8 Easy Ways to Reduce Food Waste.
