Faction Swimming Carnival
1st Elliott – 356 points
2nd Strickland – 354 points
3rd Winter – 315 points
Last Tuesday the Years 4 -6 students travelled by bus to Bold Park Aquatic Centre for the much anticipated Faction Swimming Carnival. It was a fantastic day and all the students competed so well. There was a lot of great sportsmanship and cheering for all the swimmers.
The competition was an incredibly close being decided by the final super relay.
Congratulations to all swimmers and a big thank you to Ms Burrows for all her organising, the teachers for all their work on the day and to the parents who volunteered to help the event run so smoothly. Year 6 Sport Leaders

Harmony Day
Friday 22 March we will be celebrating Harmony Day. Students are asked to come dressed in as little or as much orange as they would like. We will have an assembly led by our Year 6 music leaders, and will feature the choir. PP-6 students will be involved in singing a whole school song to celebrate Harmony Day.
Youth Dream and Lead Conference
On Friday 23 February, the Year 6s went to the Youth Dream and Lead Conference. I found it to be a chance to improve myself as a person and as a leader. Not only did I find the conference fun, but it was also a comprehensive learning experience.
Throughout the day, we learnt about many peoples’ personal journeys to how they became who they are today. The one thing all the speakers had in common was hard work, perseverance and confidence. All the speakers spoke aobut what they loved with pride. The most important thing that I learnt overall was to always dream and inspire! Rachel P
Clean Up Australia Day
Last Friday, was School Clean Up Australia Day, and we organised and participated in two events. One at lunchtime and the other after school.
During lunch, there were 18 students who kindly used their play time to walk around the grounds and pick up rubbish. Then after school, 20 students and some mums or dads met us at Beecroft Park where we spent 45-minutes collecting rubbish.
There was A LOT of soft plastics, straws, cutlery, bottles and lids. We even found socks, a shoe and half a loaf of mouldy bread. In total, we filled five bags of general waste and three bags of items made from cardboard and paper, hard plastic, metal or glass which can be recycled.
Thank you to those people who helped make our environment cleaner and diverted rubbish from natural habitats and our precious waterways. You should be proud of the difference you have made!

Chaplain’s Chat

I’ve been enjoying running BUZ (Build Up Zone) with the PP’s this term, using stories, games and activities to think about our strengths, our similarities and differences, liking ourselves, and how we communicate with each other. If you have a child in PP, perhaps you could ask if they can tell (and show) you the 5 BUZ communication skills? (If they need a hint, the first one is “eye contact” – we use the signal of 2 fingers pointing at our eyes then at the other person. Then: Listening, Speaking, Thinking, and Focus.) Later in the program, we’ll also investigate emotions, friendships, and what to do when our friendships have a hiccup.
Speaking of hiccups, we all know that it’s very normal for relationships to have some speed bumps every now and then. It’s tempting to take the easy road of telling our kids to “just find someone else to play with.” While there may be times when a friendship is genuinely unhealthy and it’s sensible to move on, it’s also important to remember that we’re all human, we all make mistakes, and we all hope for a second chance. I believe that teaching our kids how to have compassion, empathy, forgiveness, AND a backbone, is an essential part of living in a healthy community J If you’re interested in learning more about the BUZ method of conflict resolution, check out the poster at https://www.buildupzone.com/product-page/buz-hopscotch-method-yhsp or catch me for a chat sometime.
