Principal Message

Principal’s Welcome – Term 1, 2026

Dear Kapinara Primary School Community,

Welcome back to the 2026 school year! It has been a genuine pleasure to see our students, families and staff return with such enthusiasm and positivity. Classrooms are already buzzing with learning, and the happy energy across the school has made for a wonderful start.

I would like to sincerely thank our community for your patience and understanding as we navigated some early communication challenges with our new Compass platform. As many families would be aware, a number of schools involved in the same rollout experienced similar issues. I am very grateful for the kindness and support shown to our school officers and staff while these matters were resolved. Your partnership and good humour were greatly appreciated, and we are pleased that systems are now running smoothly.

It has been delightful to welcome so many families- new and old, each morning. Establishing strong home–school connections is a priority for us, and we look forward to continuing to build these relationships throughout the year.

Coffee with the Principal – Wednesday 12 February
I warmly invite parents and carers to join me for our first ‘Coffee with the Principal’ gathering on Wednesday 12 February, straight after drop-off in the staffroom. This is a relaxed and informal opportunity to meet, ask questions and connect. I hope to see many of you there. Please RSVP here.

Term Planner
To help families stay connected with important dates and events, our Term 1 Planner is now available on the school website. I encourage you to access it via the link below and keep it handy for reference:

Save the Date – School Closure for Parent–Teacher Meetings
Please note an important proposed date for your calendars: On Tuesday 24 March, school will close at 12:00pm to enable parent–teacher meetings to take place. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to establish shared goals and priorities for each child as we begin the year together. Further information and booking details will be shared closer to the date.

Launch of PRIME Maths K–6
We are also very excited to be launching our new PRIME Mathematics program across Kindergarten to Year 6 this term. Staff have undertaken extensive professional learning to support this initiative, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on student engagement, confidence and achievement in mathematics.

As always, our work at Kapinara is guided by our core values of Kindness, Consideration and Service for Others. I am incredibly proud of the way our students have returned ready to learn and to care for one another.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead filled with learning, growth and community spirit.

Warm regards,

Natalie Oddy BEd (Hons), MEd (Leadership)

Kapinara School Values in Action

School Values in Our Community Spaces

We are proud to have installed our school values logos in the school, proudly sponsored by the City of Cambridge. These visual reminders reflect the core values we strive to live by every day. Kindness, Consideration and Service. By displaying these values across our learning spaces, we aim to develop a shared understanding of what it means to ‘walk out’ our values as a member of the Kapinara Primary School community.

NAPLAN

Next month, Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). With the exception of Year 3 Writing, NAPLAN will be completed online. Students are familiar with online learning platforms. NAPLAN is viewed as one of a number of assessments that provide us with information about what children know and can apply. A brochure will come home this week with students in Year 3 and Year 5 detailing more information about NAPLAN. A schedule of the testing is detailed below.

Ensuring children are ‘ready for NAPLAN’ should be like any other day – being ready for school and ready for learning is about having a good night’s sleep, eating a healthy breakfast and arriving at school in time to be organised for the day. Like any other day and any other task, the expectation is simply that you ‘do your best’.

NAPLAN Online Schedule of Testing

NAPLAN Online tests need to be taken in a specific order. Please note that all testing is online with the exception of the Year 3 Writing, which is a paper test.

Individual students are not permitted to sit the online tests after Monday 23 March 2026 or the Year 3 Writing paper test after Monday 16 March 2026.

How to contact the school

To help us respond to your enquiries as quickly as possible, we kindly ask that all school-related emails and correspondence be directed to our School Administration inbox at kapinara.ps.admin@education.wa.edu.au, or by contacting reception on 9237 7450.

Compass

Compass is Kapinara Primary School’s primary platform for communication with families. Important information including school events, excursions, reminders, student reports, and notifications will be shared via Compass. Families can also use Compass to conveniently notify the school of their child’s absence.

We kindly ask families to check the Compass App to stay informed and up to date with school information. Where possible, notifications will also be sent to your registered email address; however, Compass should be your first point of reference for all school communication.

If you require any support accessing Compass or need assistance with your login details, our friendly administration team is always happy to help.

School Fees and Contributions

Thank you to the families of our school who have contributed through the Campion School Booklist: 66% have paid their Voluntary Contributions, 39% have paid their P&C Contribution, 42% have paid their ICT Contribution, and 35% have paid their Chaplain Contribution. Your support is greatly appreciated!

For families who have not yet made payment of contributions and charges, friendly payment reminders will be sent mid-term. Payments can be made in the front office via EFTPOS.

How to Make School Payments

Qkr! is our preferred payment method, providing families with a convenient and secure way to make school payments. 2026 billing items will be generated in Week 2, and further details will be shared once billing is open.

Families can download the Qkr! app on their device by visiting the App store. Please refer to school website under the ‘parent information’ tab for instructions.

Canteen

The school canteen is now open, offering a range of new and delicious snacks for students to enjoy. Orders can be placed easily through QuickCliq. The canteen operates on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

One less thing to worry about later with Before and After School Care at TheirCare

Even if you don’t need before or after school care right now, enrolling your child means it’s there when you do.

Work runs late. Meetings pop up. Appointments happen. Kids get invited places. Life moves fast, and having care already set up makes those days so much easier.

The good news? There’s no catch.

• It costs nothing to enrol

• You won’t pay unless you actually book a session

• Care can cost as little as a few dollars per session (after CCS)

So you can enrol, be prepared, and only use it when you need it.

Your child will be with caring educators, doing fun activities, and spending time with friends in a safe, familiar space.

It only takes a few minutes to set up and future you will be glad it’s done.

Chaplain Chats

Dear parents and care givers,

It’s great to be working in my second year at Kapinara Primary this year. Last year I was focussed on getting to know the students and staff and become familiar with the Kapinara Way. I ran

  • wellbeing programs,
  • Lunch Club on Tuesday’s,
  • assisted student leaders in whole school initiatives
  • and supported students to continue to thrive and be resilient in overcoming everyday challenges through pastoral care conversations.

In pastoral conversations, I provide a confidential, non-judgemental listening ear. This allows me to be another trusted adult for students to check in with—someone slightly removed from the closeness of staff and parents. It gives students a safe space to make sense of their circumstances, explore options, and reach their own conclusions. Where appropriate, I always encourage students to share their thoughts with parents or staff.

I am available to receive referrals from parents/caregivers, teachers or student self-referrals. If at any stage your child might benefit from chaplain support, please consider whether my role may assist them when speaking with their teacher or admin.?

Wishing you and your families a happy and memorable year ahead.
Warm regards,

Paul Stokes
