Principals Message

Dear Kapinara Community,

Positive Behaviour Support Student Voice Opportunity

On the back of the inaugural Principals’ art award and seeing the students perceptive use of symbols that represent Kapinara, we’d now like to seek student voice around our school values.

As part of our ongoing efforts to create a positive, supportive, and inclusive school environment, we are excited to share that we are introducing a new behaviour system that will be based on our schools three core values:

  • We are Kind
  • We are Considerate
  • We Lead through Service

To kick-start this exciting initiative, we are inviting all students to get creative and help design a logo that represents these values.

What is the Logo for?

The logo will be an important part of our new behaviour system, helping to visually represent the values that guide us as a school community. We are looking for designs that reflect the following key principles:

  • Kindness – What does kindness look like as a symbol? How can we show care and compassion through design?
  • Consideration – How can we represent thoughtfulness, respect, and understanding in a symbol?
  • Leadership Through Service – What does leadership through helping others look like? How can we represent service and action through design?

Submission Details

We invite all students to submit their logo ideas using the linked document (a hard copy of this form is available from the office), we welcome creativity and originality. The design could be:

  • A simple symbol or graphic.
  • A combination of images that represent the three values.

Submission Deadline

All logo submissions should be sent as follows:

  • Submit a physical drawing via class teacher or to the office.
  • Due 6 June 2025

Selection Process

Once all submissions are collected, a panel of teachers and Year 6 students will review the designs, and we will select a final logo that will represent our new behaviour system across the school and be part of the new badge system.

Warm regards,
Natalie Oddy
Principal

Old Faction T-Shirt Donations Wanted

We’re proud to share a wonderful story of generosity and community spirit from our school community this week.

Thanks to the thoughtful initiative from the P&C, Kapinara PS is donating our old-style faction shirts to Westminster Primary School—just in time for their upcoming cross-country event.

To support this initiative, a laundry basket has been placed near the uniform shop for any families wishing to donate shirts (Both new and second-hand shirts are welcome).

This kind act reflects the spirit of service and community that we value so deeply at Kapinara. A big thank you to the P&C, all that have helped organise this initiative and to everyone who has already contributed or plans to.

Music Updates

We’re thrilled to announce that our Thursday music classes will be participating in the Musician in Residence Program, a fantastic initiative funded by WAM (West Australian Music) as part of their New Noise Audience Development Program.

This term, we welcome local artist Abi Rose into our school community as our Musician in Residence. Abi will be working with students every Thursday over 10 weeks, delivering engaging and creative songwriting workshops.

These sessions focus on:

  • Songwriting and performance
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Belonging and self-expression

Students will collaborate with Abi to write and perform original songs, exploring how music can support emotional health and build community. The program includes a live performance by Abi and a chance for students to share their own creations.

This is an amazing opportunity to foster creativity, confidence, and connection through music. If you see Abi around the school, please give her a warm welcome!

For any questions about the program, feel free to contact Chani Hood, Music Teacher.

Mother’s Day Celebration in Kindy

To celebrate Mother’s Day, our two Kindergarten classes warmly welcomed their mums into the classroom for a special play-based session.

Throughout the morning, students and their mothers enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities, including collage making, painting, bracelet threading, and imaginative play in our garden centre. There was plenty of fun to be had with construction materials and games, fostering creativity and connection.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt performance of a special Mother’s Day song, making it a truly memorable occasion for all.

We thank all our wonderful mums for joining us and hope you had a joyful and meaningful experience.

Year 6 Parliament House Excursion 12 May

Usually, politics is a topic that kids dread, but our excursion to Parliament House changed that forever for the lucky year six cohort of 2025.

As pupils who experienced this wonder, we can tell you firsthand just how enjoyable it was to learn about Australia’s democratic system of government. From the Education Electoral Commission to our Parliament House tour we learnt more than we thought possible for a seemingly dry subject. One activity was at the Constitutional Centre, set in a lovely, historical building, which was absolutely gorgeous. We learnt about the three levels of government and moved to the Educational Electoral Commission where we learned about the importance of voting correctly. During this session we participated in an epic mock election. One of the highlights of the excursion was going into Parliament House, where Basil Zempilas, member for Churchlands, generously spoke to us about his role and how we, year sixes, could affect the future. After meeting such an important political figure, we began our tour and headed to the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council where we did a role play of making laws for WA. It was an honour to sit in the seats of the Parliamentary Chamber of Western Australia.

Overall, our excursion to Parliament House was a fabulous learning experience and extremely engaging for all of us.
