Interschool Swimming Carnival – A Splashing Success

On Wednesday, 9 April, our Kapinara swimmers made a big splash at the Interschool Swimming Carnival held at HBF Arena, hosted by School Sports WA. The event was filled with incredible performances, and we are so proud to say that our swimmers brought home an impressive number of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places—so many, in fact, that it’s hard to mention them all! Below, we’ve highlighted our fantastic results across the freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke events:
| Year Group | Number of 1st Place | Number of 2nd Place | Number of 3rd Place |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 4 | 2 | 4 | 2 |
| Year 5 | 13 | 4 | 3 |
| Year 6 | 4 | 7 | 2 |
| Total | 19 | 15 | 7 |
While every swimmer gave their best effort, there were several standout performances we’d like to highlight:
- Michael E triumphed in all his A division events, earning the title of Year 6 Champion Boy.
- Mia T dominated her A division events and was crowned Year 5 Champion Girl.
- Grayson V claimed the Year 3 Champion Boy title.
Our relay teams were also unstoppable! Huge congratulations to:
- The Year 6 Girls Relay Team: Ashlee M, Poppy V, Annabelle V, and Scarlett M.
- The Year 5 Girls Relay Team: Alyssa B, Caitlyn H, Astrid K, and Mia T.
- The Year 5 Boys Relay Team: Cooper L, George B, Jean L, and Orson P.
These teams showed incredible teamwork and speed, dominating their respective events.
We were also incredibly proud of the sportsmanship displayed by all our swimmers, both in and out of the pool. It was truly a joy to see their positive attitude and support for one another.
A big thank you goes to Mr. Hodgson and Mrs. Black for their hard work in helping Mrs. Burrows coach the school swim squad. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our parent helpers who made the day run smoothly and to all the parents who came along to cheer on the Kapinara Swim Team.
We finished with an outstanding 1st place overall, securing 519 points, and were crowned Champion School at the event.
We couldn’t be prouder of our swimmers and their achievements. Well done to everyone who participated, and thank you once again to all our supporters.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Burrows

ICAS Participation Update
As part of our Business Plan focus on prioritising high-quality teaching and learning for all students and aligning our resources accordingly, we are streamlining processes to ensure the collection of meaningful, high-quality data.
As part of our commitment to extension opportunities, we encourage parents to enrol in ICAS by registering through one of the WA testing centres. Registration is expected to open between late April and early May.
For the most up-to-date information on registration and testing schedules, please visit the ICAS Website or contact ICAS directly.
“Green” Dress Up Day Tomorrow
Get ready to have fun and support a great cause! Dress in green for the last day of term 1, Friday, 11 April, and help raise funds for the Kapinara Primary School veggie patch. Bring your gold coin donation and don’t forget to dress smart for the sun with school-appropriate clothing. This event is proudly organised by our Year 6 students.
ANZAC Day Service – 2 May 2025
The school’s ANZAC service will be held on Friday, 2nd May 2025, at 9:15 AM on the front lawn outside the administration building, near our new flagpoles (weather dependent). This will be hosted by the Year 3 classes.
We kindly ask the school community to contribute flowers, ivy, and greenery from their gardens to create the flower wreaths for the service. Please bring the donated flowers and greenery to the school on Thursday, 1st May, so that the wreaths can be prepared fresh on Friday morning.
We are seeking volunteers from the parent community to assist with the wreath-making from 2.30pm on Thursday, 1 May. If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Hopetoun-Smith or Mr. Hodgson.

Year 3H & 3HS – Egg Drop

In an exciting hands-on science experiment, Year 3H and 3HS students recently put their engineering and creativity skills to the test with the Egg Drop Challenge. The task? Design and create a vessel that would protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a height in the playground.
Students worked to build their egg-protecting contraptions using a variety of materials, testing their designs by dropping the eggs from heights. The challenge was to see whose egg would remain intact and which would crack under the pressure.
It was an egg-citing day filled with laughter, teamwork, and problem-solving. The students thoroughly enjoyed testing their creations, and it was fascinating to see their innovative designs in action.
While some eggs survived the fall, others weren’t so lucky, everyone learned something valuable about forces, protection, and the importance of trial and error.
Great job, Year 3 students – your creativity and critical thinking skills were truly impressive.
