Principals Message
Dear Kapinara Community,
I am pleased to share some important updates regarding our School Board following the recent stepping down of Felicity Maher from her role as Chair, and the extended leave of Aleisha Niebieszanki.
Welcoming Our New Chair: Gavin Bennett
I am excited to announce that Gavin Bennett has been elected as the new Chair of the Kapinara School Board. Gavin, who has two children attending Kapinara, is enthusiastic about contributing to our school community in this new role. Please join me in congratulating Gavin and acknowledging his new position when you see him.
Welcoming New Staff Member: Leigh-Anne Chipps
We are also delighted to welcome Leigh-Anne Chipps as a staff member joining the School Board. Congratulations, Leigh-Anne, and a warm welcome to the team. We look forward to the valuable contributions you will make to our school community.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Felicity Maher
Although Felicity Maher has stepped down from her role as Chair, I am pleased to announce that she will remain an active member of the School Board. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Felicity for her unwavering dedication, hard work, and invaluable contributions to the Board during her tenure as Chair. Her passion and commitment have had a lasting impact on our school, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her ongoing role.
We are excited about the direction our School Board will take with these new additions and continued collaboration. Thank you for your support as we continue to foster excellence at Kapinara.
Warm regards,
Natalie Oddy
Principal
Raising Funds for our Veggie Patch – Green Dress Up Day
Get ready to have fun and support a great cause! Dress in green for the last day of term 1, Friday, 11 April, and help raise funds for the Kapinara Primary School veggie patch. Bring your gold coin donation and don’t forget to dress smart for the sun with school-appropriate clothing. This event is proudly organised by our Year 6 students.
ANZAC Day Service – 2 May 2025
The school’s ANZAC service will be held on Friday, 2nd May 2025, at 9:15 AM on the front lawn outside the administration building, near our new flagpoles (weather dependent). This will be hosted by the Year 3 classes.
We kindly ask the school community to contribute flowers, ivy, and greenery from their gardens to create the flower wreaths for the service. Please bring the donated flowers and greenery to the school on Thursday, 1st May, so that the wreaths can be prepared fresh on Friday morning.
We are seeking volunteers from the parent community to assist with the wreath-making from 2.30pm on Thursday, 1 May. If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Hopetoun-Smith or Mr. Hodgson.

Music Assembly

Well done to our Orchestra, Year 6 Violinists and Rockapella students for their amazing performances at our Music Assembly. Our Music Captains did a wonderful job of running the show!
Harmony Day

On Friday, 21 March, Kapinara Primary School proudly celebrated Harmony Day. The entire school participated in the celebration, showcasing their cultural pride by wearing orange or cultural dress. Students also collaborated with our specialist Art Teacher, Anna Trovarelli, to create artwork reflecting the spirit of Harmony Day.
2BT Class Reward – Cubbies for Harmony Day
Year 2BT recently reached a special milestone by filling their reward jar. As a well-earned reward, Miss Davies and the students came up with a creative idea to build cubbies in celebration of Harmony Day. The cubbies provided a fun and unique space for the students to enjoy reading and eating their lunch together. It was a memorable experience, allowing the students to bond and relax before they had to dismantle their giant creations. Below are some photos from the day.

Year 3H & 3HS Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre Excursion
On 24 March, Year 3 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre.
We would like to thank all the parent helpers for their support and involvement, making this a valuable learning experience for the students. The day was a fantastic success, and the students gained a deeper appreciation for the environment and its ecosystems.

Year 1 Learning – The Bug Man Visit
The Year One students were thrilled to receive a special visit from “The Bug Man”! During his visit, he taught them all about the fascinating lifecycle of butterflies and brought along caterpillars for each class.
Over the next two weeks, the students eagerly observed the caterpillars as they underwent an incredible transformation, first encasing themselves in chrysalises and eventually emerging as beautiful butterflies. The excitement peaked when the students were able to hold the butterflies before releasing them to flutter off into the garden.
This hands-on experience gave the children a deeper understanding of nature and the wonders of metamorphosis.

The Kapinara Way
The Year 6 students have worked hard to create a fantastic video highlighting The Kapinara Way—showcasing all the ways we do the right thing at Kapinara. This was shown to all students and was met with a great response. As part of The Kapinara Way we have set a focus for the next term as Tidy Bags for a Tidy Space.
We’d like your help to encourage students to keep their bags neat and tidy. For the younger years please help your child get into the habit of hanging their bag up neatly and keeping it zipped. It’s an important habit that helps maintain a clean and safe space for everyone. Your support in reinforcing this routine is greatly appreciated.
