Principals Message

There’s a buzz of excitement in the air as we count down to our End of Year Concert this Thursday evening! Mrs. Davey and the students have been hard at work rehearsing, and it has been truly delightful to hear their beautiful singing fill the school this week. A special thank you to Mrs. Davey for her incredible dedication during this busy time—especially as she approaches 36 weeks of pregnancy. Your efforts are deeply appreciated, and we’re so grateful for all that you do to make these moments special for our students.
We’re also finishing the year with a splash as our Pre-Primary to Year 4 students begin their swimming lessons on Monday, running daily right through to the last day of school. It’s always a fantastic experience for the students, and no doubt they’ll be sleeping soundly each night after such active days!
This Friday, we are eagerly awaiting our Leadership Assembly, where we will present badges to our 2025 Year 6 leaders. It will also be a wonderful opportunity for our current leaders to meet their successors, share their insights, and officially hand over their responsibilities.
As we approach these exciting events, thank you to our school community for your ongoing support in making these moments so meaningful for our students.
Thankyou,
Kylie Reeves
Principal
Kapinara Principal 2025
The School Board is delighted to announce that, following a rigorous selection process, Natalie Oddy has been appointed as Kapinara’s substantive principal, commencing in 2025. Natalie brings a wealth of experience as an accomplished leader and is currently the Principal of Kewdale Primary School. Her proven track record of fostering strong school communities, driving excellence in teaching and learning, and building positive relationships makes her an outstanding fit for Kapinara. We look forward to welcoming Natalie and working together to continue our school’s tradition of excellence.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Kylie Reeves for her exceptional leadership as Acting Principal this year. Kylie has led Kapinara with dedication and professionalism, and her contributions have been greatly valued by the entire school community. We are also thrilled to share that Kylie has been successful in securing her first substantive principalship, beginning in 2025. This is a significant achievement, and we wish her every success as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career.

Kapinara Class Placement Policy
To provide clarity on timelines and processes, Kapinara has introduced a Class Placement Policy. This policy was collaboratively developed by Kapinara staff and has undergone a thorough feedback and endorsement process, involving both staff and the School Board.
As the representative parent body, the School Board has officially endorsed the policy. We believe it will offer clear guidelines and transparency for our community, while also outlining important information about the class placement process.
The endorsed policy is now available on our school website here, and we encourage you to take the time to read through it to familiarise yourself with the guidelines and processes it outlines.

Student Spotlight – Excellence in Action
Highlighting the talent, creativity and hard work of our students.
Class 6L has been focusing on poetry this term. Below are two pieces written by our students, reflecting their thoughts and feelings about graduation.

From Garden to Plate: A Delicious Journey
This week, our Pre-Primary students transformed their classroom into a bustling pop-up restaurant, celebrating their hard work in the garden and enjoying the fruits (or rather, bulbs) of their labour!
Over the past term, the students have been diligently learning how to grow garlic in the PP garden. Chelsea shared her wisdom: “You have to take care of the garlic, don’t play with the leaves.” Connor continued, “You also have to water it!”
Their efforts paid off when they harvested their garlic and used it to make delicious garlic bread. The classroom became a “fancy” restaurant complete with table settings and decorations. The reviews from their eager patrons were (mostly) glowing:
- “I really like our restaurant because it’s nice and fancy and has flowers,” said Rosie.
- “The bread was tasty, but I didn’t like the crust,” remarked Arlo.
- “The herbs made it a little tastier,” Diego added.
- “Can I order some more please?” asked Lucy.
The garlic bread was a hit—there wasn’t a crumb left! This hands-on experience taught the children about gardening, cooking, and teamwork, leaving them with full bellies and big smiles.
A huge congratulations to our budding chefs and gardeners!

Keepsakes Year 6L to 2C
Each year for the past four years, our Year 6 students have had the special opportunity to meet with Mrs. Chipps’ class. They interview the Year 2 students and create a personalised Christmas book all about each child. In Week 8, we gather together to read the books to the Year 2s and then gift them as a Christmas surprise. It’s a wonderful tradition that spreads joy and strengthens our buddy friendships.
