Principal’s Message

Last week, we enjoyed a wonderful start to our Kapinara Playgroup, with a full group of families joining us. Our playgroup community is a blend of current Kapinara families with younger siblings and new families from the area, all excited to connect and get involved. We look forward to seeing everyone again this week for another enjoyable session together!

This week marks the second round of our whole-school classroom newsletters being sent to parents, in line with our Communication Policy (available on our website). In Weeks 1 and 6 of each term, classroom teachers email a one-page class newsletter to update parents on key activities and plans for the upcoming five weeks. This initiative helps keep families connected with classroom happenings and supports clear communication throughout the school community.

Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead,

Kylie Reeves
Principal

2024 Semester 2, Student Reports

You may have recently seen news about government initiatives aimed at reducing teacher workload and cutting red tape. The Education Department provided updated guidance on reporting requirements to help reduce workload for teachers. As a result, some minor adjustments have been made to student reports to align with these directives.

For the Semester 2 reports this year:

  • Teachers will continue to provide grades for all learning areas, organized by subject and strand (e.g., English: Reading and Viewing, Writing, Speaking, and Listening).
  • Indicators for Attitude, Behaviour, and Effort will also be included as usual.
  • A general comment will be provided, covering aspects of social development, work ethic, and student strengths.

Parents are, of course, welcome to meet with teachers upon request to discuss their child’s progress in more detail.

The Education Department is scheduled to review the Assessment and Reporting policy in Semester 1 of 2025, after which schools will receive further guidance on reporting practices.

At Kapinara Primary, our teachers remain committed to sharing quality information on classroom focus and programs through class newsletters, as well as providing insights into student progress and achievement through requested meetings and reports.

Book Fair 2024

We’re incredibly grateful to our wonderful school community for making this year’s Book Fair such a huge success! With your support, we’re thrilled to be able to purchase new books for our school library.

A special mention goes to our amazing parent volunteers: Phui Chan, Kim Szwedzick, Katie Voss, Jane Tresise, Emma Schmidt, and Karen Brittain. We also appreciate our dedicated staff members Julie Carmichael and Chez Walker who generously volunteered their time at the checkout. A big shoutout to our fabulous Librarians, Jo Moore, and Valerie Zakarian for their hard work and support.

We’d also like to acknowledge the families who generously purchased books to support our wonderful community.
