Principal’s Message

Do you think school should start later to account for adolescent sleep patterns or electronic devices should be banned in schools? These are the topics our Kapinara Interschool Debating Team will tackle this Thursday morning as they compete against local schools. Our talented team—Jemima, Ellen, Tayla, and Rachel from Year 6, along with Sienna and Scarlett from Year 5—have been working diligently with Ms Lund to prepare for the event. We wish them all the very best for the day!
Our Kapinara Playgroup Orientation meeting is coming up this Friday! We extend our heartfelt thanks to one of our own parents, Denise Zurita, for her incredible work as coordinator. Currently, we have only four spots remaining to reach our limit of 20 families. This Friday’s orientation is a brief, one-hour session facilitated by Playgroup WA. After that, our weekly playgroup sessions will run every Friday during school terms, from 9:00 to 10:30 am. A big thank you to our community for supporting this wonderful initiative. For more information, please reach out to: kapinaraplaygroup@gmail.com.
Last Friday, a smoke smell was detected in one of our classrooms. As a precaution, students were promptly evacuated to the oval, and the fire brigade was called. This occurred just before the end of the school day, with many parents already on-site for pick-up. Our staff followed procedures calmly and effectively, and I want to thank them for their steady approach and support. The fire brigade identified a minor electrical fault with a light fitting, which has since been fixed. We’re pleased to report that everyone remained safe throughout, and we’re grateful for the cooperation of our community. A big thank you to parents for supporting our teachers and the school in following the evacuation process smoothly.
Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead,
Kylie Reeves

Chaplain’s Chat
Greetings, Kapinara Community!
I hope you’re all enjoying the beautiful blue skies and warmer days we’re lucky to have. Living in such a special part of the world gives us so much to be thankful for, and one of the things I’m most grateful for is being part of a community that truly cares for one another. Whether it’s through the local “Buy Nothing” group or right here within our school, I see so many examples of kindness, generosity, and support that bring our motto, “Kindness, Consideration, and Service for Others,” to life. Thank you for modelling this generosity for our kids—our community really does shine.
It was wonderful to see so many KPS families at the Wembley Downs District Fair! I spent some time helping at the YouthCARE stall and enjoyed catching up with some familiar faces. Events like these are a reminder of the strong community we have.
Recently, I’ve been learning more about “School Refusal” and attended a webinar by Michelle Mitchell and Dr. Karen Young. Michelle shared the interview link afterward that offered a quick, practical perspective on supporting kids who may be struggling. A phrase that really stuck with me was, “Avoidance doesn’t help our kids. When it’s the hardest, it matters the most.” I think we can all relate to this, even as adults—sometimes the hardest things to face end up being the most important.
If you have any strategies for tackling tough challenges, I’d love to hear them! I’m reminding myself daily that “I can do hard things, and hard doesn’t mean bad.” Hopefully, this little reminder resonates with some of you too.
Thanks for being such a warm and supportive community. Here’s to another great week ahead!

IMSS 2025
The selection process for IMSS 2025 is complete! We kindly ask that parents of selected students submit the required permission forms by Friday, 15 November, 2024.
We would also like to recognise the efforts of the students who participated in the testing and extend our thanks to the staff who supported this year’s selection process.
Remembrance Day

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year is recognised as Remembrance Day. This marks the anniversary of the armistice in 1918, when the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11am on November 11th, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. A red poppy has become symbolic of Remembrance Day.
The Kapinara community has always assisted Rotary and the RSL to support the welfare of War veterans and their dependents, and this year we will again be selling Red Poppies, to raise funds for this commendable cause.
Yr 5s will be selling red poppies, for a gold coin donation, outside the instrumental room before and after school from Monday 4 November, until Monday 11th November. We thank you for your support of Remembrance Day.
A short Remembrance Day Service will be held on Monday 11 November at 10.40am un the Undercover area. Parents are welcome to attend.
