Principal’s Message

Dear Kapinara Primary School Community,

This week, our students have been enthusiastically celebrating Book Week with a stunning library display that beautifully showcases their love of literature. The display highlights their engagement with the works of Frané and Mark, the authors who visited us last week. Their inspiring talks have truly immersed our students in the world of books. We’re also looking forward to the Book Week parade this Friday morning, where students can dress up as their favourite literary characters. If you haven’t had the chance yet, we invite families to visit the library to see the wonderful literary projects our students have created, which are still on display.

We’re eagerly anticipating a fantastic Faction Carnival tomorrow! Our PE teachers have been busy preparing for a day full of fun and activities. If you’re available between 8:00 and 9:00 am, we would greatly appreciate any help with setting up tents and equipment on the top oval. Your support would be warmly welcomed by our staff.

Each year, the School Board holds an Open Board Meeting, inviting community members—including parents, students, and staff—to attend and observe the board’s discussions and decisions. Our next Open Board Meeting will be held on September 2nd at 6:00 pm. We encourage you to join us to learn more about the important work being done by the School Board.

Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead,
Kylie Reeves
Principal

Celebrating Bookweek!

On Friday 23 August, Kapinara will celebrate Bookweek during the 5P assembly. The Children’s Book Council theme for this year is Reading is Magic. We will hold a Book Parade and would love students to dress up as their favourite book character (and bring along the book their character is from) or in a costume inspired by this year’s theme. This is not a competition and students are encouraged to create their own imaginative costume! Parents are invited to attend.

Frane’ Lessac & Mark Greenwood Visit

Kapinara students were totally engaged in the workshops presented by Author/Illustrators Frane’ Lessac and Mark Greenwood last Wednesday, as they brought books to life at Kapinara. Frane’ shared the story of her Islands, the wonderful assistance of Banjo, her dog, in editing her writing, and the powerful importance of making and learning from mistakes. Frane’ demonstrated her unique painting style and students drew their own fabulous ‘kangaroos’.  Mark is a History hunter who enjoys searching for lost explorers and glittering treasures. He inspired everyone, delving into unsolved mysteries and famous cold cases and showed the many places around the world he has been to research his ideas.

‘Mark gave me some great ideas for my next story and I loved all his books. I also loved how he left us hanging, he made us feel like we were in the book, then when the good part came, he stopped. Now I want to read his books and find out the end.’ Bo J

‘I love how Mark Greenwood makes us laugh with his funny jokes and gets us thinking with his puzzling questions.’ Sofia D

‘When Mark told us about the UFO story, I found it amazing and when I saw the photo from the 19th century and the one from 2022, it was so cool.’ Jamie G

Australian Girls Choir Workshop

Kapinara will once again host an assessment workshop for the AGC. The workshop includes singing and movement activities and is designed to be a fun and positive experience.

The workshop will be held at lunchtime on Wednesday 18 September (Athletics Club will have concluded). It will run for approximately 30 minutes and each registered student will receive an encouraging written report following the workshop.

Register for the workshop online at ausgirlschoir.com.au/schoolworkshop

Chaplain’s Chat

Last term, the Year 6s engaged in a social/emotional program called BUZ Power, using games, stories, activities, metaphors, and conversations to increase their self-awareness, self-belief, and respect for others.

Each student was given a mini toolbox, which gradually filled up with symbols of the life lessons that were being discussed, such as an elephant (standing up for your values), a piece of rope (cooperation, strength in team), a seed (growth and change), a maze (making good choices), a bouncy ball (resilience), etc. Throughout the term, the students worked together to build trust, culminating in the final mega session where they completed a series of team challenges to “Save the World” from nuclear destruction. Thankfully, they were successful and we’re all still here!
