Dear Families
You are no doubt counting down the last couple of days until you all have a break from the routines associated with school – making lunches, helping with homework, searching for school jumpers etc. I hope you are able to enjoy a few sleep-ins and relaxed days. I also hope the children in our worlds have time to slow down and relax. A day or two ago I read something that reminded me of how important this is. Michael McKnight was reflecting on the wisdom of Maria Montessori who drew the distinction between an adult’s pace of life and the natural pace of childhood, concerned that too often, children are expected to ‘speed up’ rather than the adults around them slowing down. He noted that in her book, the Secret of Childhood, shemarvelled at how elephants instinctively slow the herd down to the pace of its youngest members. We would do well as a society to hold this in the back of our minds.
Year 6 Speeches
On Monday, students in Years 4-6, their teachers, Mrs Dixon and me, had the pleasure of listening to eleven Year 6 students deliver a three minute speech on a topic of their choice (within the context of Rotary’s Four Way Test). This was the culmination of a unit of work on public speaking, and the students had been shortlisted to present their speeches to the larger group. The presentation enabled us to identify two students and a third ‘reserve’, who would subsequently speak at the annual Junior Public Speaking event, hosted by Cambridge Rotary. The speeches are assessed on the content of the speech, the speaker’s presentation, and the extent to which the values of the Four Way Test are incorporated. The quality of each of the speeches was very high, and we admired the thought that had gone into each one, the time each speaker had devoted to their delivery, and the courage that is required to speak in front of your peers. Congratulations to those who presented their speeches on Monday, and particularly to the three students who will continue to be coached for the Rotary event next term, Ruby M, Nixon G and Holly K. I would also like to share with you the text of the speech presented by Croyde B-B which also really impressed me. I appreciated hearing about the impact of social media from his perspective and found it easy to follow his well-structured cohesive text. Thank you Croyde for sharing.

Dance Concert
I hope you are able to join us for tomorrow (28 June) afternoon’s dance concert, where the students from Kindy to Year 6 will showcase the dance moves they’ve been developing in their weekly lessons. It will also be the last day I will see you in my role as Principal at Kapinara, and I will appreciate the opportunity to say farewell in person – assuming I can curb the tears to do that!
Pink Day
Thank you for supporting our recent fundraiser for Breast Cancer – a sea of pink replaced our regular sea of blue. Thank you to our School Captains and Councillors, to Kate M in the canteen, and special thanks to the McCusker Charitable Foundation. A parent of one of our Year 1 students is a Director on the Foundation’s Board and this week very kindly committed the funds required to make our schools’ donation up to $1000! How wonderful – thank you.

Best wishes
Elizabeth
Interschool Cross Country Report
The Interschool Cross Country Carnival was hosted by City Beach Primary School. The Kapinara Team trained consistently throughout the term and delivered some excellent results with all students running to the best of their ability on a hot day, over some long distances.
We came 5th overall out of 10 local schools who participated, with several top 10 performances:
In year 6 Emmy T and Croyde B-B finished 5th respectively. In Year 5 Anabelle VN was 9th, Sienna L 10th, with the remainder for the Year 5 girls team not too far behind. They were our strongest team on the day. In Year 4 Cooper Ly took 10th place and Mia T won a silver medal in her event and in Year 3 Jack K finished in 6th place. Grayson VN won his race with a large gap between the second place runner.
We would like to thank all parents who could attend on the day for their support as well as our parent helpers on the day. Thank you to Mr Watson and Miss Niebieszczanski for giving up their time to help with running club. Liz Burrows
Semester One Reports
School reports were emailed home yesterday. Please download and save the reports. The link expires in four weeks and you will no longer be able to access them. Reports are required for high school applications, we get a very high number of requests each year to regenerate them. It would be greatly appreciated if they were downloaded and saved before the link expires. Thank you.
What’s been happening -from the Year 6s!
Pink Day
On Thursday, 13 June Kapinara went PINK! This was to raise money for those in our amazing community struggling with breast cancer! All year groups were allowed to wear pink to school if they donated a gold coin. There was also a pink hairspray stand for $1 and some pink foods in the canteen. Overall, we had a fabulous day, and it was great to see everyone happy wearing comfy pink clothes and accessories. We raised close to $700 dollars! This all goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Thank you so much to the School Councillors and Captains for organising this amazing event. Amelia F
Lightning Carnival
On the 14th of June, the Year 6 students participated in their first lighting carnival against several other schools in the area. The Soccer and Netball Team B went to Woodlands Primary School and the AFL and Netball Team A went to Floreat Primary School. We all left at 12:10pm. Each of the teams put in all their effort and tried their best. Congratulations to Nixon G and Sam B who won awards for their part in AFL. Overall, the afternoon was a great success, and all of the Year 6 students, coaches and parent helpers had a great afternoon in the sun. James L
Maths Club
Maths club started in Term 2 with 20 students in Years 1-3. Members tackled problem solving, competitions, and tricky puzzles with delight and enthusiasm. We finished off the term with a Digits of Pi Competition. It was fantastic to see the pride our Maths Club members had in learning a useless string of random numbers for the pure joy of it!
Chloe in Year 3 was the champion, reciting 100 digits of pi. Close behind her, and keen for the chance to catch up in Term 3, was Ruby and James, also in Year 3, with 70 digits each. Paco in Kindy was the top competitor for Early Childhood with 41 digits – remarkable effort – watch out Year 3s! Everyone at the pi competition was rewarded with a pie. Emma Tomkinson
