Thursday 4 August dawned dark and stormy, but the intrepid Year2/3D, 3F and 3H classes set forth on a great zoo adventure.
Fortunately, for us all, the rain fell while we were travelling in the luxurious comfort of the bus and when we arrived, the sun burst through the clouds and within an hour, there were blue skies!
We all enjoyed a bush party and learnt a lot about Australian animals and how we should use bubbles at parties, rather than balloons. When balloons fall back down to earth, animals think the coloured rubber is food and eat it and get sick . Worse, some may die or get it caught over their beaks or necks.
We saw many animals like the Sumatran Tiger, Asian Elephant, regal Lionesses, dingoes, kangaroos, emus and Komodo dragons, as well as flying penguins catching fish!
On reflection back at school, we are wondering why the zoo has animals from different countries in them?
Why are so many animals endangered and what can we do to help bring them back from the brink?
Why are there monkeys with moustaches and animals that are all white called albinos?
We all had a wonderful day and wish we could visit every day!!
Mrs Hopetoun-Smith, Miss Filov, Miss Carey and Miss DeBrass would like to sincerely thank the following parents for giving up their day to accompany us:- Mrs Cleeve-Edwards, Mrs Aron, Ms Clyne, Mrs Malesic, Mr Lees, Mrs Houghton, Mrs Thepanier, Ms Do, Mrs Mathwin, Mrs Pilkington and Mrs Webb.
Feedback from the Zoo Staff was that we were one of the best schools they have had visiting, in that the students asked interesting questions, listened, using manners and followed the rules of the zoo to the letter. Well done.
Mrs Hopetoun-Smith
