As an Independent Public School, Kapinara established its School Board in 2013 to help strengthen school–community partnership and student outcomes. The Board works with the Principal and school community to contribute to good governance so that resources are used efficiently and our priorities reflect the needs of Kapinara students.
What the Board does
The Board’s functions are set out in the School Education Act 1999 and Regulations and include both approval and advisory roles. In practice, this means the Board:
- promotes the school in the community and engages on matters that affect student learning and wellbeing
- endorses or approves key items such as contributions and charges (fees), booklists, sponsorship and the student dress code
- helps set and review the school’s objectives, priorities and general policy directions
- monitors progress against our Business Plan and considers school performance information to support continuous improvement
The Board does not intervene in the day-to-day control or management of the school, that is the role of the Principal
Who sits on the Board
Membership includes the Principal, staff and community members, with parents and community members forming the majority, as required by legislation. We actively seek a broad range of perspectives that reflect our school community. All parent and community members complete a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check in line with Department requirements.
Get involved
Vacancies are advertised to the school community when they arise. If you are interested in nominating, or would like more information about what the role involves, please contact the Principal or the Board Chair via the school office.
