Psychology Service
We are supported by the Department of Education’s Psychology Service. Mr Richard Luyke is at Kapinara on Wednesdays. The service provides support across the following three areas:
- Behaviour Working with students, parents and schools to identify and change target behaviours
- Learning Conducting assessments of students experiencing learning difficulties and/or disabilities at school and supporting schools to make appropriate curriculum adjustments
- Mental health and wellbeing Providing direct support for students experiencing mental health and well being difficulties, and supporting schools to maximise the development of positive mental health and wellbeing
School Chaplain
School Chaplaincy services are designed to contribute to existing wellbeing and pastoral care services. within the school. While the term ‘chaplain’ suggests that the program might have a religious focus, or reference a specific faith, this is not the case. The program is about supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of students and families within our school community. Notwithstanding this, students’ engagement with a school chaplain is completely voluntary and parents may elect for their child to not be part of the chaplaincy program. Mr Paul Stokes is at Kapinara on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
Nurse
Community Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. They work over a number of Primary Schools in the area and are not based in any one school.
Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. The services provided are free and confidential. To learn more about the role of the community nurse please click on this link – Who are the Community Health Nurses?
