Date changed from 4/6/19 to 9/9/19
This year we are trialling a format which enables us to run the Faction Athletics Carnival on a single day. Please click here for the Program of Events
Please help us to run a safe and enjoyable carnival:
- If your child sometimes suffers from asthma (particularly asthma induced by exercise and/or cold weather) AND he/she does not have an inhaler at school, please send your child with their own inhaler
- We have a number of students who have an anaphylactic reaction to bee stings and other allergens, including nuts and dairy. We will ensure epi-pens are with us on the oval during the day, but everyone can do their bit to help by not sharing food and drinks. Children will be reminded not to share food and drinks with others, but we also ask that parents do not share food and drinks with children other than their own.
- There will be food and drinks available for adults ONLY – thank you P & C
Please do not purchase items for children. The Year 3 parents will run a separate cake stall for students and parents shortly.
- Please leave dogs at home for the duration of the carnival. As always, please feel free to walk dogs on the oval after students have left school.
I look forward to seeing you on the day.
K – 6 Faction Athletics Carnival – Monday 9th September
The jumping and throwing events for Year 3 – 6 will begin at 8am. Ms Burrows has been recording jumps and throws during lessons and the top 4 boys and girls from each faction will be chosen to represent their faction on the day.
The top 3 (400m: Year 3 and 4 and 800m: Year 5 and 6) runners from each faction (boys and girls) will represent their faction in the middle distances, with the opportunity for other students who wish to self-nominate available.
All children will participate in the year level sprint events. All students in Year 2 – 6 will compete in their sprint race and at least 2 of the 4 team games on offer. All K – 1 students will complete in their sprint race and the tabloid events.
The K – 1 tabloids and the Year 2 – 6 team games will take place at the same time. The juniors will be run on the northern half of the oval up near the long jump pits and the seniors on the southern half of the oval near the track.
The K – 1 children will be split into 18 multi-age groups (same faction) of 7-8 children who will rotate around 6 activities. Each of the 18 groups will need a volunteer parent team leader (we will supply the earplugs and Panadol!!). Please email Mr Hodgson at email@example.com if you are able to help out with the tabloid events.
We look forward to an exciting and fun-filled day where children can showcase the athletics skills they have been learning all term.
We take this opportunity to remind families that dogs are not allowed to attend the carnival.

Author Visit – Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor
On Thursday 12 September, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Kapinara Primary School to run workshops with our PP-2 students. PP students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading and follow-along drawing activity with Cameron. Year 1-2 students will be focusing on idea formation and inspirations for narratives, and exploring the combination of words and visual elements. Students and teachers are looking forward to a great day!
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Kapinara PS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following day, Friday 13 September, to the Office.

The Year 6 students have been working on a musical production called ‘Shakespeare Rocks’. They will be performing this at Churchlands SHS’s main auditorium on the evening of Wednesday 25 September 2019. We will be taking all students from Years 1-5 during that day to watch the full dress rehearsal. We will make a firm decision about whether we also take the Pre-Primary and/or Kindergarten students, next week.
It would be great for the Year 6s to perform to a packed auditorium in the evening. Those choosing to arrive a little earlier can treat themselves to a pre-show drink! Please find information about the event and how to purchase tickets, in the details below. You will be able to select seats as part of the booking process. The musical runs for approximately an hour.
We hope to see you there!
‘If music be the food of love, play on…’ William Shakespeare.
Kapinara’s Year 6 students and Miss Li invite you to their spectacular musical – Shakespeare Rocks! Come and join us for a night of daring drama, catchy tunes, tear-jerking romance and a whole heap of witty humour that will have you falling off your seats with laughter!
Shakespeare Rocks puts a modern twist on Shakespeare’s life and the Elizabethan Era; one that you never could have imagined! So come and support our Year 6s in this unique event! Surplus funds, if any, will be directed towards the development of Kapinara’s lower oval.
So if you are wondering whether ‘… to attend, or not to attend…’ we can tell you … you definitely don’t want to miss this one!
