Dear Parents and Carers
Congratulations to the families of children from Pre-Primary to Year 2 who successfully navigated their way through the additional challenges of in-term swimming. We were fortunate to have been allocated afternoon sessions and grateful that the weather was, on the whole, very good. Some of our students were excited just to travel by bus. In 2019, students in Years 5 and 6 will participate in in-term swimming in the first two weeks of school. Those in Pre-Primary to Year 4 have their in-term swimming scheduled in Term 4.
We have been very fortunate to have had only one or two isolated incidences of vandalism at Kapinara. Sadly however, over the weekend just gone, vandals smashed glass on the ground within the school, and attempted to start several fires. The incident has been reported to, and investigated by, Police. Interestingly, in the last few weeks at least two former Kapinara students were seen inside the school grounds and on the roof. Several current students have also been seen within the school grounds.
We are delighted to be in a position to share our beautiful playgrounds and ovals with our school community and broader community. All we ask is that people treat these valued spaces with courtesy and respect, and spend their time on the clearly visible ovals and playgrounds. There should be no reason for current or former students to be in the quadrangle and on the verandah. Please mention this to your child if he/she is playing on the school grounds outside school hours. Should we experience any further vandalism, we will provide police with the names of students past and/or present who have been observed within the school, as opposed to playing on the oval or playgrounds recently.
On the advice of the WA Police, we will place signs at entrance points to the school warning that ‘trespassers will be prosecuted’ if any property is harmed.
As a school community we request that neighbouring property owners please be vigilant and report any disturbances or suspicious activity. Please contact the police on 131444 for trespassing or 000 to report suspicious activity where it is thought to be potentially causing damage or fire.
This is a brief reminder for parents of students currently in Years 2, 3 and 4. At the end of last term, information pertaining to the Department of Education WA’s instrumental music program, was emailed to the families of these students. Attached was an Expression of Interest (EOI) form, many of which have been returned. Just in case anyone missed or overlooked the email sent on the 19 September, we will accept EOIs that arrive at the front office by this Friday.
The school is already starting to come to life with the colour and creativity of students’ 2018 artworks. We hope that you will be able to join us for Kapinara’s Arts Night tomorrow between 6:00 and 9:00pm. See you there!
