Message from the Principal – Week 7

Dear Parents and Carers

It was lovely to be able to gather for several recent events.

Remembrance Day

Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Powell and her Year 4 class for leading us through a thoughtful Remembrance Day service on 11 November. Thank you also to those who purchased poppies to support Legacy WA.

Year 5/6 Classes Assembly

We enjoyed the dance item that 5/6D and 5/6S created and performed, so much that we asked them to do it all again. What a fabulous product of history, dance and creativity coming together for their energetic performance. Congratulations to our talented students and the teachers who supported them – Mrs Dixon, Miss Stewart and Ms Burrows.

Soiree

We were very fortunate to not only come together in large numbers, but to do so in the lovely auditorium at Churchlands SHS. The orchestra, under the direction of Ms Bak, performed two pieces to open the Soiree and the choir, under the direction of Mrs Davey, performed two pieces to close. In between, we were treated to performances by the Year 6 instrumental music students. It was a fabulous evening. Congratulations everyone!! You can view some of the photos taken on the night in our photo gallery.

P & C

Last night was our final P & C meeting for 2020, and we farewelled long-standing member John Scott, as the last of his three children will finish primary school this year. Thank you John … and others for whom this will be their final year contributing to the efforts of our P & C.

The P & C will however, continue to work hard to help us bring to life a special end-of-year concert on the top oval. The valuable contributions our community has made to the P & C this year, and thus the school and its students, will be on display once more as it is the P & C that is funding the hire of a stage and lighting. Thank you once again 🙂  The P & C will be running a sausage sizzle on the evening (pre-orders ONLY), but families are also welcome to bring a picnic on the evening of Thursday 3 December

At last night’s meeting I heard a rumour that when Kirsten has an extra volunteer in the canteen, the children are able to purchase ice-creams that day. PLEASE consider volunteering as Kirsten works incredibly hard to keep the canteen running in these last few weeks.

We are looking forward to our final assembly led by the children in 2BJ on Friday morning. I wonder what they have in store for us …

Personal Requirements Lists

Next week families will be able to access the Personal Requirements Lists for each year level. Considerable time and thought goes into these lists, and they are endorsed by the School Board. As these lists ‘go live’ via our website, teachers will send home any stationery that has not been used by your child or children. If however you would like to donate any unused stationery items to Give Write, they will be gratefully accepted by that organisation who will repackage them for families in need. We will provide more information about this soon.

Kindy Picnics

We hope our Kindy students and their families thoroughly enjoy their upcoming picnics on the lower playground. We are still planning one more for Year 1 and 2 students!
Please keep an eye out for an email from me tomorrow re (i) information for 2021 class planning; and (ii) nominations for two new members of our School Board.

Stay well and safe.
Elizabeth
