Latest News – Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers

PP – Year 4 Interm Swimming

This 8-day series of lessons is not until the last two weeks of this term (7 – 16 December), and replaces the lessons that were cancelled earlier in the year because of COVID-19. We usually have our lessons at Bold Park, however it is fully booked at that time so we have been reallocated to Scarborough Beach Pool. We have been allocated afternoon timeslots.

As this is an outdoor venue can I make a couple of suggestions?

  • If your child needs a new rashie, consider getting a long sleeved one.
  • Between now and the commencement of lessons please make sure that your child is capable of applying their own sunscreen, especially our younger students. Teachers will supervise but will not be able to apply sunscreen to each and every child.

Permission and information notes will be sent out soon.

Brightpath Numeracy Trial Year 2 – 6

Brightpath is a Western Australian organisation who support teachers to use professional judgements to make high-quality assessments in a range of learning domains. At Kapinara we use the Brightpath writing assessment platform and have now been invited to trial a new suite of numeracy assessments.

Students in Year 2 – 6 will be completing a number of numeracy assessments, commencing the week beginning 2 November. The assessments comprise of multiple-choice and short response questions. Students will complete the assessments on-line.

The assessment feedback will inform changes that may be required in the future. Our Brightpath coordinator is Mrs Kylie Powell and should you require further information she can be contacted at kylie.powell@education.wa.edu.au.

2021 Year 7 ICT Information Session – Churchlands SHS

Pre-Primary Planting Session
This week the Pre-Primary classes had a planting session.  Bunnings usually comes to the school to do a planting session with the children, but like most things this year, it wasn’t possible.  So Anke Woodland, our “Patch” co-ordinator,  rallied a few parents to help with the planting session instead.  Everyone had a great morning.

Back in Term 2 the children planted garlic, and here they are showing off the recent harvest!

Pre-Primary Picnic
A reminder to parents and carers, that you are invited to join PP1 and PP2 students on the lower oval during their lunchbreak on Thursday, 22 October 2020,  11.30-12.30. You only need a picnic rug and lunch. Please provide children with their regular healthy lunches; the treat is having you share their lunchtime!

Year 6 Camp
Rottnest – what a fabulous location for Year 6 Camp! The weather was perfect, the water was warm(ish) and there was so much to see and do. Our Year 6s successfully rode to the West End and back; learned about history, geography, sustainability and Aboriginal culture; took part in night-time activities such as stargazing and a quiz night; and entertained us with their performances during dorm inspections. Students particularly loved the swimming and buying lunch in Thompson Bay on the last day. A particular thank you to our very capable parent helpers – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Congratulations to everyone who took part; it was exhausting, but an incredible amount of fun.
