Payments Due and Reminders

Outstanding Term 3 costs
Year 3 Herdsman Lake Excursion $19 – Payment and Permission

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

It’s great to be back. I have really appreciated the ‘welcomes’, so thank you so much. I would also like to welcome the several families who have joined us in the last few weeks.

Interschool Athletics

There was so much excitement at the end of Term 3 when Kapinara blitzed interschool athletics. Congratulations to a group of fabulous students, who trained hard and competed to the very best of their ability which saw us awarded first place! Thank you to Physical Education specialist teachers, Miss Burrows and Mr Hodgson and to their valued support crew of parents and faction leaders.

Mental Health Week

I was delighted to see that today, as part of Mental Health Week, Australia has launched what is apparently the world’s first National Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. We are advised that the strategy ‘provides a framework to guide the development of a comprehensive, integrated system of services to maintain and support the mental health and wellbeing of children aged 0 to 12, as well as their families’. Education settings are designated as one of four key focus areas.

Are you aware that …

  • Over 50% of adult mental disorder start before the age of 15
  • Mental disorders are among the most common and disabling health conditions impacting children and adolescents
  • Mental health problems in childhood and adolescence that occur at key points in children’s development, can impact their entire life course trajectory

The importance of children’s positive health and wellbeing can’t be overstated. The development of children’s personal and social skills has featured strongly in our last two business plans, and few would dispute it maintaining a high profile in our next one. If you would like to read more about the new national strategy, please see more information at these links. National Strategy  and Strategy Tips.

I look forward to sharing more information about what this means for schools, as this becomes known to us!

Planning for 2022

There are many factors taken into account when we structure classes each year. It’s a very thoughtful, complex process that involves significant collaboration among staff. Notwithstanding this, if there is information that we do not already have about your child (or family) that you believe may significantly impact on your child’s learning and/or wellbeing next year, I invite you to contact me by the end of Week 3 (Friday 29 October). This can be via email, phone or by making an appointment to see me, through Gail or Tehani in the front office. Please be aware that this does not include requests for a specific teacher.

Thank you for the advice we have received from families who won’t be returning to Kapinara next year. This information is really important for our planning. While we will be sad to see a few families go, our enrolments continue to grow. We are currently expecting an enrolment of at least 410 next year!

Stay safe and well.
