Latest News – Week 5

School Sport WA Triathlon

On Friday, the 6th November we took a team of Year 5 and 6 students to compete in the School Sport WA triathlon at Champion Lakes. Our boys teams competed in the B division and our girls teams competed in the female only category.  For a lot of the students this was a new experience and it also meant stepping outside of their comfort zone.  The students were exploratory in the way they approached the whole competition. Their teamwork was excellent, and it resulted in second and third place medals in the Boys B division. The team consisting of Ashton G, Jeremy F and Christopher D came third with the team consisting of Henry P, Dominic L, and Xavier P coming in second place. Most of the students also competed in the Aquathlon (run-swim-run) Milla T was the first Kapinara finisher in this event. Several students had great success with five of our students finishing in the top 20 and being invited to State try outs. Thank you to Mr Hodgson who accompanied us to the event.  All results can be found at Bluechip timing http://www.bluechipresults.com.au/results.aspx?CId=11&RId=1375&EId=6&dt=0&adv=1

Remembrance Day

A reminder that the 11th November is REMEMBRANCE DAY  –   A day when we stop to remember all those who have given their lives in the fight for freedom.

The Year 4s will continue to distribute red poppies for a gold coin donation. They will be outside the Instrumental Room (near the entrance to the Pre-Primary corridor) before and after school until Wednesday. Thank you for supporting this important cause.

A short Remembrance Day Assembly will be held in the undercover area immediately after recess.

KAPINARA SOIREE

The upcoming Soiree for String, Orchestra and Choir students will be held on November 18. The details regarding tickets and permission have been emailed participating families today. Tickets will be $5 per seat and are available through the Qkr app. There will be no door sales as there are limited seats. We will initially limit purchases per family to 4 tickets to ensure families do not miss out. There will be an option when you buy to indicate if you would like more if available.  If you have not yet registered for Qkr and would like to do so, please refer to this ‘How to’ link  Register with Qkr!
If Qkr is not an option you would like to use, please contact the office for an alternative payment option.

Book Fair

Thanks for amazing support from our school community for this year’s Book Fair! While children reading books is a brilliant stand-alone outcome, as a school we also receive more wonderful books for our school library. So THANK YOU to families for your support.

Special thanks must also go to our Library Officer Mrs Jo Moore, for the many extra hours she invests to make this such a special and successful event, and to her helpers Kym Szwedzicki, Nikki Little, Louise Owen, Nic Schmidt, Tash Brindal, Fee Wong and Katherine Berry.

Sustainability Committee and Year 5 Green Team

As a part of our cross curricula capabilities and science/HaSS programmes, each Wednesday from now until the end of term will be WASTE FREE  WEDNESDAYS.

Please send waste free lunches on Wednesdays. The Green Team will be keeping a keen eye on each year and letting the school know after lunch which year was the most waste free for that week. Congratulations to Year1&2 who won last week’s waste free Wednesday glory!

We are also participating in Containers for Change on a trial basis.

This will start in Week 5 and we are asking all students from Years 3-6 to bring in any plastic bottles or soft drink cans from 250ml up to 3 litres in capacity on Thursday and Friday mornings. Please no milk bottles as these can not be recycled. These will be being collected by students and supervised by staff outside the Instrumental Room before school on these days.

In Week 6 , we will be asking for the students in PP-Year 2 to bring in their cans and plastic bottles and drop them off before school on Thursday and Friday outside the Instrumental room.

We thank you for supporting our school’s sustainability initiatives. Gemma Hopetoun-Smith

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal

Dear Families

5LJ is coordinating Kapinara Primary School’s contribution to the St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal this year. We encourage everyone to donate some non-perishable items to those in the community who are less fortunate. You can donate items such as:

  • canned goods/any foods that last a long time;
  • toys that your family doesn’t use/need anymore that are in good condition; and
  • some essential items such as new toothbrushes, soap & other personal necessities.

These items go to those who wake up on Christmas Day with no cheer or joy or even substantial food. Giving to these people will make their day, just knowing there are people out there supporting them. Even though this is a great cause, please don’t go to too much trouble buying unnecessary items like sparkling new toys.

Your item(s) can be placed in the drop-off boxes, which will be outside classrooms and in the front office. You have until the 9th of December to donate to those who need it most. And remember every gift counts. Thank you and have a lovely Christmas.

Audrey L, Zoe B and the students of 5LJ

Kindy News

We have had a number of fabulous incursions this term. Melissa, Youth Librarian from the Town of Cambridge Library, came in and ran a story time session with us to celebrate Children’s Book Week and to deliver our Better Beginnings Book Packs.

Our Green group had a delightful visit from Meg’s mum Kym when she brought in the family’s gorgeous new baby chicks for us to cuddle. Our Yellow group had an exciting visit from Ollie’s dad Paramedic Nick who brought the Ambulance to school. A huge thank you to our parents who offered to come in and run a session with our lucky Kindy children. Mrs Mee
