Acting Principal’s Message

Wow, What a Week!  This week has been packed with STEM, Music, Arts and Sports.  I have been so impressed with the students across classes who set themselves goals in their own learning and then focus on working to achieving these learning goals.  This intrinsic focus and commitment sets our students up for lifelong learning.  I was blown away with some Year 1 students who talked about their metacognition as they engaged in a writing task.

As we head into the holidays,  I wish all our Kapinara families and community a wonderful holiday.  To all the footy fans enjoy the momentous AFL Grand final at our very own Optus Stadium.
I thank you all for welcoming me this term and I wish you all a fabulous Term 4.

Interschool Athletics Carnival
A huge congratulations to our Kapinara Interschool team who blitzed at the carnival on Friday at Bob Hawke College Oval.  This was the first win for Kapinara since 2009 and we won by 190 points!
Special thanks to  Mrs Burrows, who has been instrumental in preparing the students for their events.  Thanks to Mr Hodgson for working closely with Mrs Burrows, they have instilled a team commitment through the running club and training opportunities and developed a “can do” culture where students focus on their personal best.  Thanks also to teachers, parent helpers and all those who supported our Kapinara team. Kapinara dominated across the day and our students showed resilience, sportsmanship and perspective – qualities for life. Congratulations to our age champions and runner up champions on the day.

Assembly PP1 & PP2
The Pre Primary students shone at assembly as they sang “Djinda Djinda Kanangoor.” They were all shining stars as they captivated us with their singing, reading and actions. Thank you to Mrs Minissale and Mrs Loleva for all their work for this assembly.  Thanks to the parents and caregivers for the vibrant Australian animal costumes.

Peace Pole
At the assembly, Jeremy Wood from Rotary presented Kapinara Primary School with a Peace Pole depicting the Universal Peace Message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”.
The Peace Pole symbolises our common wish for a World at Peace and reminds us to think and act in the spirit of Peace. The idea of Peace Poles was developed first by Masahisa Goi in 1955 in Japan. Since then, more than 200,000 have been placed around the world in close to 200 countries. The Peace message is written in four languages – English, Japanese, Indonesian and Noongar on each side of the Peace Pole.

Four-Way Test Speech Competition
During the assembly, our special visitor, Jeremy Wood from Rotary awarded Cassie C her certificate for winning the recent Four-Way Test Speech Competition. This  competition requires the student to prepare a five to seven minute speech to illustrate the Rotary Four-Way Test. Congratulations to Cassie who presented her speech on the benefits of recycling soft plastics.

Take care everyone and enjoy the holidays

Orchestra Festival

Our Orchestra performed at the WA Orchestra Festival performance on the 11 September. The feedback we have had from parents and staff has been amazing. This year our orchestra competed in the C Grade Level, moving up from the Beginners competition, so the students should be very proud of receiving a merit and of receiving such positive feedback from the adjudicators.

Orchestra Rehearsal Cancelled

Unfortunately Ms Bak is unwell this week and will not be able to attend the rehearsal for Orchestra on Wednesday. Lessons will still go ahead for cello students as normal,  as she has found a relief teacher able to take the lessons but unfortunately is not available before school for the rehearsal. Ms Bak acknowledged that the students have worked so hard in the lead up to the festival that a morning off was well deserved!

Pyjama Day

As part of our “Service for Others”, the student councillors have chosen to support Telethon this year and we are participating in the Telethon fundraiser “Pyjama Day”. We encourage all students (and teachers) to please come to school dressed in your pyjamas on Friday 24 September and bring a gold coin donation for Telethon.

School Councillor Message – Year 6 Fair Newsletter

Dear Kapinara Community,
We hope you are all well and looking forward to the holiday break. I am sure your children are ready to have lots of fun at this year’s fair.  The recommended money to bring for the fair is between $5-10 (preferably in coins and in a ziplock bag). Completing some jobs around the house is a great way to earn some pocket money to spend at the fair. All funds raised will go back to the
school.  The Year 6 Fair will be on Thursday the 23rd of September! Thanks for supporting us.
Yours sincerely, the 2021 Student Councillors.

International Day of Peace

The 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. We invite you to join the efforts of the United Nations family as we focus on recovering better for a more equitable and peaceful world. Class 3D will be aiming to complete as many acts of peace as they can between International Day of Peace on September 21 and United Nations Day on October 24. If you would like join them in pledging to acts of peace you could complete a record sheet or make a dove to hang on a tree of peace in the front office or write a pledge or make a poster. Thank you in advance for the difference you will make to achieving peace in the world.

Filmbites Incursion

Due to the rescheduling of the carnival, some of our interschool students have unfortunately missed out on one of their drama sessions. The cost of the session has been refunded to the student accounts and those affected will be contacted when further costs arise. If you would prefer a refund please contact admin.

Online Absentees

When completing the online absence form, please ensure the information regarding the absence is completed. The requirements from the Department of Education around attendance reporting is very specific in schools. We are increasingly receiving ‘family reasons’ or ‘appointment’.  Unfortunately, these reasons on attendance will be marked as ‘unacceptable’ on your child’s record. Please complete the form using eg ‘family holiday’ or ‘dental appointment’ which will then be recorded appropriately.
