STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Careers in STEM are fundamental to Australia’s continued advancement and prosperity. However, young people can be easily influenced by stereotypes, seeing a career in STEM as lab coats, hard hats and spanners. Woodside has an abundance of role models who don’t fit these cartoon stereotypes – Promoting STEM in Schools is our way of helping to improve the quality and diversity of talent entering the STEM pipeline.
Our STEM program targets both primary and high schools aged students.
The primary session is targeted at Year 5s, but is suitable for age groups from Year 3 through to Year 7. Students will build an “oil and gas reservoir” using bread, vegemite and sprinkles! Teams will then get to drill exploration wells with a straw and assess the cores to determine if they’ve hit oil.
There is no cost for this incursion.
