P&C News Week 6

Happy Sunday night, and welcome to the second half of term 1:

Firstly, huge thanks to everyone who came along to the Sundowner event on Friday night, and an even more massive thanks to the volunteers from across the year groups who gave their time to make sure everything ran smoothly. We hope you all had as much fun as we did 🙂

Election Day Saturday 13 March – P&C Sausage Sizzle, Year 6 Cake Stall Fundraisers

Election Day is this coming Saturday 13 March. If you haven’t voted already, we hope you’ll consider coming to vote at our school, where we’ll have not one by two fundraising activities – a cake stall hosted by the year 6 families to raise funds for various year 6 activities, and a sausage sizzle (including bacon and egg rolls) hosted by the P&C to raise money on behalf of the whole school.

Sausage Sizzle – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

To ensure the sausage sizzle runs smoothly, volunteers are needed to prep, cook and serve on our stall. P&C Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 9 March at 7pm

The P&C will hold its AGM on Tuesday 9 March at 7pm in the Library. The meeting should run for approximately one hour, and will include elections for all office-bearer positions (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) as well as nominations for the P&C Executive and each of the committees/services provided by the P&C – Canteen, Uniform Shop, Grounds Committee (playground), Sustainability initiatives (in partnership with the school), school banking, fundraising and more. We would love to welcome new members, especially who may have skills and experience that could help us with our fundraising and community-building goals throughout the year. School Banking Has Resumed (Wednesday)

School banking has resumed, taking place every Wednesday morning from 8:30-8:45am outside the Uniform Shop. Even if you forget your bank book we can look up your registration details to help your child keep banking.  You can find more information about the CBA School Banking Program on our website at http://kapinaraps.wa.edu.au/parent-information/banking/ 

Uniform Shop (Tuesday and Thursday)

Normal in-person service has resumed in the Uniform Shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays before school (8:30-9am). You can still order online by downloading an order form from https://bit.ly/3cRaq1T and email your order to kapinara.uniform@gmail.com Orders will be packed by our volunteers and sent home with students via classroom teachers.

Canteen – WE NEED YOU!

Thanks to those who have already volunteered in the canteen this year, and thanks to all those who have signed up to help in the week their class is rostered on.  We manage our volunteer roster at https://signup.com/go/itHUFmZ Reminders will be issued a week in advance and the night before, and class reps will also ask for your support the two weeks a year your class is rostered to help.

Unfortunately, more volunteers are URGENTLY needed in order for the canteen to operate a full service.  This week is the turn of 5P (4 out of 8 volunteer spots remain unfilled, and there are currently no volunteers for Thursday lunchtime). Next week is 2JJ and only 1 out of 8 volunteer spots have been filled. Without an adequate number of volunteers on each day, the Canteen will need to either close or offer a very limited menu.

IF YOU CAN HELP, please volunteer at any time – it doesn’t need to be your child’s class’s week, and volunteers are NOT limited to parents only – grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours, all can help.

Canteen volunteers can work either half shifts from 8.45am-10.45am or 10.45-1pm, or a full shift 8.45-1pm. Parents volunteering for a half shift receive a free recess for their child/ren, and those volunteering for a full shift receive a free lunch for their child/ren. Hand washing and following strict hygiene measures are of critical importance for all those who are volunteering.

P&C News Week 2

Hello Kapinara Families, old and new, and welcome back (finally!) to the new school year.

On behalf of the P&C we’d like to extend a very warm welcome to all of our new families, from those in Kindy all the way through to year 6. We’re looking forward to getting to know as many of you as possible, and hope to meet you in person very soon.

To our returning families, we welcome you back just as warmly. Hopefully the extended school holiday break wasn’t too onerous – relaxing even? And we hope you’ll have the opportunity to admire the now completed Wobbly Playground at the bottom of the Kindy stairs, which was finished over the school holidays thanks to the amazing support you provided throughout 2020.

Kapinara Welcome Sundowner 2021 Event – Friday 5 March

Save the date for the annual Kapinara welcome Sundowner event on FRIDAY 5 MARCH from 5-9pm (pending lockdown advice and Covid-safety requirements). This is a great opportunity for new families to get to know the Kapinara community – BYO, picnic on the oval, and enjoy a great evening out for all ages!  The band has been booked and food options are being finalised – stay tuned for booking information coming soon.

P&C Meetings – Date for Your Diary

The first regular meeting of the P&C for 2021 will take place on TUESDAY 23 FEBRUARY at 7pm, in the staffroom. Any and all members of the Kapinara community are welcome to attend and your support is greatly appreciated – you don’t need to be a member to attend, only to vote, and membership costs just $1 . Participation in the P&C is a great way to learn more about how the school is run, how you can help the P&C support the needs of our kids through fundraising and community-building, to meet other parents and teachers from outside your class group, and more.

The P&C’s Annual General Meeting will take place later in term 1 – stay tuned for more details.

Uniform Shop – Online Ordering This Week

Due to post-lockdown restrictions, the uniform shop will run an online ordering system for this week. We hope to resume normal in-person service from next week onwards as and when restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, you can download an order form from https://bit.ly/3cRaq1T and email your order to kapinara.uniform@gmail.com Orders will be packed by our volunteers and sent home with students via classroom teachers. You can send queries to the same email address if you have any queries, and our uniform shop managers will be happy to help however they can.

Canteen – WE NEED YOU!

The canteen will open from week 3 onwards (commencing Tuesday 16 and Thursday 18 February) providing recess and lunch options every Tuesday and Thursday unless otherwise advised. As you may know, our canteen relies on volunteers to provide a cost-effective and healthy service, and without volunteers we’re unable to operate at full capacity. With fewer volunteers, we may need to either reduce menu options, or potentially close on selected days. Mums, dads, aunts/uncles, grandparents or neighbours – anyone over 18. All are welcome and tasks are simple – cutting fruit, prepping toasted sandwiches/wraps/pizza/salads, packing completed orders – your support makes a huge difference!

We have found the most efficient way to manage volunteer requirements is to assign every class in the school the duty of providing the volunteers for each week. P&C News Week 9

Congrats Kapinara Families – it’s almost the end of another school year ? Thank you for all your support of the P&C and the School in 2020, whether that’s with time, $$ or both, from the uniform shop and canteen to Quiz Night, the EOY concert, Easter Raffle, cake stalls, disco and so much more. Good luck to our year 6 families for whom this is their last year at Kapinara, welcome to all our new families, and see you soon to all the returning families – we wish you all a safe, healthy and happy festive season with family, friends and loved ones.

Uniform Shop

Today (Thursday 10 December) is the last day that the Uniform Shop will be open for 2020, though online orders can still be placed until 8am on Tuesday 15 December to be brought home by students or picked up from the front office before the end of term. The online order form can be downloaded at https://bit.ly/33XtsP1 The Uniform Shop will open again ahead of term 1 on Friday 29 January from 9:30am-11:00am. Canteen

Tuesday 15 December will be the last day for canteen in 2020. Place your orders as usual via QuickCliq, and remember that any remaining cash balance in your QuickCliq account will carry over to 2021. You may notice that your preferred menu choices aren’t available – that’s because we’re running down our freezer stocks ahead of our end of term deep clean and switching off the freezers for the holidays. Sushi, teriyaki and toasted sandwiches won’t be impacted by this since they are made to order, but in the meantime enjoy the return (while stocks last!) of favourites such as zucchini slice and frozen yoghurt arrows.

Canteen Volunteers

A very huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to all those who have volunteered in the canteen this year. Without you, we quite simply cannot operate, so even one shift spent making toasted sandwiches or chopping fruit and veg for the go green bags means that we’re able to open on our usual Tuesday and Thursday and offer a more complete range of menu items.  More volunteers = more menu choices. 

We understand that not everyone is able to volunteer, whether due to work or childcare commitments. To that end, we’ll be sending out a short survey to get community input on what’s most important to you when it comes to canteen – staying open no matter what, a full menu offering, or low prices. Stay tuned!

Sundowner 2021

SAVE THE DATE for our annual Sundowner welcome event to be held early in term 1. Tentative dates are either week 3/Friday 19 or week 4/Friday 26 February – a family event on the oval with food trucks, bbq, live music and more. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details and a confirmed date, coming soon!

Class Reps for 2021

The role of class rep is not only crucial to the operation of the P&C and the support we provide the school, but an amazing way to meet and stay connected with other parents in your class and year group. Sign-up sheets for the role of class admin rep (1x per class) and social co-ordinator (2x per year group) will go up in time for the start of term 1 – please consider volunteering for one of these roles. It’s a minimum time requirement which really does make a huge difference. 

P&C Annual General Meeting 2021

Our AGM will take place on Tuesday 23 February (week 4) at 7pm in the School Library – anyone and everyone is welcome to attend! This is the meeting where we nominate and vote for office bearers, executive committee, and other valuable volunteer roles from canteen and uniform shop to playground maintenance, sustainability initiatives, and communications. If you are interested in finding out more, or have skills you think might be helpful (finance, accounting, project management, marketing, teaching, childcare etc etc) please email kapinarafamilies@gmail.com and we will be more than happy to chat with you.

This year the P&C is hosting a sausage sizzle to help take the pressure off needing to feed the kids (and adults!) while checking out the art. For those who have pre ordered food will be available for pick up by referencing your surname between 5:30 and 6:30pm on the grassed area outside the Canteen. Order Form

  Kapinara Quiz Night 2020

The P&C presents Kapinara’s annual Quiz Night, 2020! Join us for an evening of fun, games and quizzing to raise money to support the school. Goals for this year’s event include the completion of the Wobbly Playground upgrades, updates to the undercover area, a new siren, technology and more. This is a licensed event with bar on site 

– no BYO. Food is available or you can bring your own snacks and nibbles to be eaten at your table. EFTPOS and cash all gladly accepted 🙂

Start Sailing School Holiday Program 

“The Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club will be hosting a Junior Sailing Program aimed at 7-12 year olds during the September/October School Holidays. “Tackers 1 – Having Fun” aims to provide children with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing and is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water. Tackers 1 will run from Tuesday, 29 September 2020  to Friday, 2 October 2020 from 8.30am to 1.30pm each day. “Tackers 2 – Tricks & Techniques” aims to build on the fun participants had in Tackers 1, to progress their sailing skills. Thanks to all who have offered to buy and donate goods. The condiments and drinks need to be delivered to school or 25 Talgarth way City Beach before or on Thursday please.

Volunteers for the day are still desperately needed for 2 hour shifts during the day being 7-9am, 9-11am, 11-1pm, 1-3pm and 3-5pm.

P&C Newsletter Week 2

Hello Kapinara Families, 
With restrictions easing this term we plan on resuming cake stalls later in the term, just need to remember to keep up the good work with hand hygiene and social distancing.
Our next P&C meeting is Tuesday 4 August. Participants are now able to attend in person, with the meeting being held in the staff room starting at 7pm.

Picture Plates/Water Bottle Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone who took part in this fundraiser. Ordering is now complete and finished products are expected to be received back from the manufacturer and sent home by the end of this term.

Entertainment Books
Entertainment Book memberships for 2020-21 are now available for purchase in digital format via https://www.entertainment.com.au/orderbooks/8o3491 – memberships are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, making this a more flexible way to save than ever before. Due to the pause of the school banking program in term 1 and term 2, Commonwealth Bank has acknowledged that students were unable to make deposits in the usual way and therefore missed out on receiving tokens for their deposits.  CBA have decided to give active School Banking students an ex-gratia reward item. This means that any bankers who completed at least one deposit in term 1 will be eligible to receive a reward item without needing 10 tokens.  To collect your reward please attend the school banking on Wednesday mornings and speak to Thanh.

Uniform Shop
The uniform shop is now open to parents on Thursday mornings from 8.30-9am for those who would like to attend onsite. The uniform shop continues to encourage online ordering, forms can be found on the school website and should be emailed to kapinara.uniform@gmail.com.

The P&C is still looking for a volunteer to take over running of the uniform shop by the start of 2021. Hours and days are very flexible, making this a great role for someone looking to work around childcare or other commitments. If you are interested please email Nikki at kapinara.uniform@gmail.com 

Canteen 
Canteen is welcoming back volunteers in term 3. Based on feedback in term 2, we have made some updates to our menu to ease the burden on volunteers while working to provide increased choice. Menu changes include more fresh salad and sandwich options, more in-house (not processed) hot meal options, and potential theme days. Hot drinks are offered in winter (terms 2-3) and icecreams and icy poles will be included on the summer menu. 

Pikelets have not yet been added back to the menu – pikelet making is very labour intensive and requires a volunteer for a whole shift to make them. Fruit options have been very popular which is great to see. Ideas for menu items to add are always welcome. The new menu is attached.

Canteen shifts are either half shifts from 8.45am-10.45am or 10.45-1pm, or a full shift 8.45-1pm. Parents volunteering for a half shift receive a free recess for their child, and those volunteering for a full shift receive a free lunch for their child. Hand washing and following strict hygiene measures are of critical importance for all those who are volunteering – canteen manager Kirsten has completed Covid-safe food service training and is well placed to provide guidance. 
**It is really important that volunteers let the canteen manager know if they are sick. They should NOT attend if they are unwell or feel that they are coming down with something. The canteen will adapt to manage this, and can do a reduced menu that day if needed.**

New P&C Treasurer Needed

Sadly for us, Kapinara’s current P&C Treasurer Anna Larson is moving interstate in term 3, which means that we are looking for a new Treasurer to manage the P&C’s finances and operations.  The role of the Treasurer is as follows:

  • Prepare and present a written report for every P&C meeting (2x Tuesday nights per term), including an up-to-date bank account reconciliation and a statement of receipts and payments;
  • Manage all the P&C’s accounts including Canteen, Uniform Shop and all fundraising, as well as contributions to the School;
  • Complete tax and superannuation related documents;
  • Prepare the P&C’s accounts for audit (annual/bi-annual);
  • While not essential, experience as an accountant is preferred along with recent experience of Xero and other cloud-based accounting software, as well as an understanding of non-for-profit reporting requirements.

Uniform Shop Help Needed

We are seeking a Uniform Shop co-ordinator to assist with and eventually take over running of our Uniform Shop. This is an important volunteer role which is well supported by the P&C and other volunteers, and is flexible in terms of days required for those with younger children in kindy or day care. Netball
The Perth Netball Association’s Winter Netball season is due to start on 18 July, with games running until late September at Matthews Netball Centre. We’re currently looking for players to join a year 2/3 Kapinara team, who will play on Wednesdays at 4.15pm. Lost Property

We’ve got a large number of items currently sitting in our Lost Property area. Teachers are doing their best to match any items with name tags to children, but without a name tag they can’t help. Don’t forget to have your child look through lost property if they are missing something!
