Important Information for Drop Off and Pick Up Day One

Families of Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students will have received information about the first few weeks, at the end of last year.

Year 1 and Year 2 students:  Teachers will greet children (and briefly AN adult if you wish) on the verandah outside their classroom. This will enable a parent or caregiver to say a ‘quick hello’ to the child’s teacher and help the child manage a potentially heavy school bag. Teachers will be primarily focused on children and helping them to feel comfortable so we would be grateful if this is actually a quick hello. It will also help us to meet the Phase 4 COVID requirements pertaining to adult numbers and social distancing.

Year 3 and Year 4 students:  Teachers will greet children in the undercover area or quadrangle.

Year 5 and Year 6 students: Teachers will greet students in the basketball court area.

Please ensure that children are accompanied by ONE parent/carer only. That is, one adult per family, unless another parent or carer is dropping off a Kindergarten or Pre-Primary student and is therefore in a different section of the school. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard. J

Week 1 after-school ‘pick-up’

Children in Year 1 and the Year 1/2 class will congregate in front of the school office at Catesby St at 2:50pm, ten minutes prior to the end of the school day.

Children in Year 2 (with Miss Stewart and Mrs Jonklaas/Mrs Jackson) will congregate in front of the school office at 3:00pm.

This will enable the majority of Year 1 students to be released to parents/carers prior to the Year 2s arriving. Parents who don’t need to collect other siblings are asked to depart reasonably quickly to create room for the next group of children and parents.

Students in Years 3-6 will be dismissed from the quadrangle at 3:00pm.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers

I’d like to extend a special welcome to families who are joining the Kapinara community for the first time in 2021. In addition to families with students who will start Kindergarten next year, we have a significant number of families with older students who will be at Kapinara for the first time. Some are arriving from overseas, some from interstate and some will have moved much shorter distances. Irrespective of the age of your child or children, the country you call home, or where you are currently residing – we welcome you! In the first few weeks of the school year the P & C will host a sundowner, and we would love you to join us for this event.

I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the staff, students and families who have worked together throughout a challenging year to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children at Kapinara. My warmest wishes for your special family celebrations and a wonderful vacation break.

Best Wishes
Elizabeth Blackwell

We anticipate that report links will be emailed on Friday. Class lists will be placed on a password protected page on our website the week prior to school starting, an email will be sent with the password when they are available.

Congratulations to the Year 1/2TB class for an outstanding class effort. They returned all their library books on time for 10 weeks!

IMMS Instruments

I’m pleased to confirm that IMSS students currently in Years 3-5 who have been hiring an instrument, either through IMSS or the school, will be able to have a violin, cello or double bass at home over the holiday period – to enable them to PRACTISE.

Containers for Change

Families who would like to collect recyclable containers during the vacation period may pick up a collection bag from outside the school office on Thursday.
The container bag will be labelled with the school Scheme ID C10288919.
The bag can either be returned to school on 11 January and 25 January between 7am and 12 noon to the undercover area or dropped directly to the depot (Recycling Waste Solutions) at 81 Hector Street Osborne Park. Collections will support the schools sustainability program and refund donation is paid to the school.

Wishing all of our families a wonderful and safe Christmas break!

P&C News Week 9

Congrats Kapinara Families – it’s almost the end of another school year ? Thank you for all your support of the P&C and the School in 2020, whether that’s with time, $$ or both, from the uniform shop and canteen to Quiz Night, the EOY concert, Easter Raffle, cake stalls, disco and so much more. Good luck to our year 6 families for whom this is their last year at Kapinara, welcome to all our new families, and see you soon to all the returning families – we wish you all a safe, healthy and happy festive season with family, friends and loved ones.

Uniform Shop

Today (Thursday 10 December) is the last day that the Uniform Shop will be open for 2020, though online orders can still be placed until 8am on Tuesday 15 December to be brought home by students or picked up from the front office before the end of term. The online order form can be downloaded at The Uniform Shop will open again ahead of term 1 on Friday 29 January from 9:30am-11:00am. Email with any questions.

Tuesday 15 December will be the last day for canteen in 2020. Place your orders as usual via QuickCliq, and remember that any remaining cash balance in your QuickCliq account will carry over to 2021. You may notice that your preferred menu choices aren’t available – that’s because we’re running down our freezer stocks ahead of our end of term deep clean and switching off the freezers for the holidays. Sushi, teriyaki and toasted sandwiches won’t be impacted by this since they are made to order, but in the meantime enjoy the return (while stocks last!) of favourites such as zucchini slice and frozen yoghurt arrows.

Canteen Volunteers

A very huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to all those who have volunteered in the canteen this year. Without you, we quite simply cannot operate, so even one shift spent making toasted sandwiches or chopping fruit and veg for the go green bags means that we’re able to open on our usual Tuesday and Thursday and offer a more complete range of menu items.  More volunteers = more menu choices.

We understand that not everyone is able to volunteer, whether due to work or childcare commitments. To that end, we’ll be sending out a short survey to get community input on what’s most important to you when it comes to canteen – staying open no matter what, a full menu offering, or low prices. Stay tuned!

Sundowner 2021

SAVE THE DATE for our annual Sundowner welcome event to be held early in term 1. Tentative dates are either week 3/Friday 19 or week 4/Friday 26 February – a family event on the oval with food trucks, bbq, live music and more. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details and a confirmed date, coming soon!

Class Reps for 2021

The role of class rep is not only crucial to the operation of the P&C and the support we provide the school, but an amazing way to meet and stay connected with other parents in your class and year group. Sign-up sheets for the role of class admin rep (1x per class) and social co-ordinator (2x per year group) will go up in time for the start of term 1 – please consider volunteering for one of these roles. It’s a minimum time requirement which really does make a huge difference.

P&C Annual General Meeting 2021

Our AGM will take place on Tuesday 23 February (week 4) at 7pm in the School Library – anyone and everyone is welcome to attend! This is the meeting where we nominate and vote for office bearers, executive committee, and other valuable volunteer roles from canteen and uniform shop to playground maintenance, sustainability initiatives, and communications. If you are interested in finding out more, or have skills you think might be helpful (finance, accounting, project management, marketing, teaching, childcare etc etc) please email and we will be more than happy to chat with you.

Waste Wise Competition

Further to our announcement last week of Kapinara winning last terms Waste wise competition, the Year 5 students were present with prizes by Amanda Elizabeth, “The Shark Lady”, who gave a very interesting and entertaining talk about sharks and her work as a marine conservationist. She obviously reinforced the message of plastics in our ocean as one of the main threats to marine life. Each student got a MyEarth sandwich wrap ethically made in India, a Waste Wise School Onya bag which could be scrunched up small and attached to a school bag and a Waste Wise School pencil.  Sue Jonklaas

Containers for Change

Thank you to everyone who has been participating in Containers for Change. Our first collection has resulted in $35.10 being returned to the school which is great news for us and the environment!

Parents of Swim Squad Participants

Bold Park have advised that they are subject to contact tracing registration as of 5 December. This does not apply to children. If you normally wait for your child inside the foyer, it would be preferable for you to wait outside as you will need to scan a QR code or complete manual registration if you go inside.
